Luke Spencer definitely. Just led his team to a huge upset win over Turpin in the tournament. Was an absolute monster for WW tonight and IMO should be at least considered for player of the year. He did lead the league in scoring.

I have no idea about the rest of the league but i know the boys from WW that should be all league. all 4 captains:

Mike Day, Olliver Velez, Tyler Popolin, Luke Spencer

Decide first or second team for yourself but i think these are the guys from WW that go all league.

I am not surprised by the turn around this year for WW. D. Gillespie always had good teams at Northwest out of all places. He is now doing the same at WW...who was even worse than Northwest when he took over. They can only hope he continues to coach after this season. Not to take anything away from the players...but as the old saying goes, "it starts at the top".
Congrats to WW on a big win. I hope they beat Milford after last nights 16-0 score over Amelia. There will NEVER be a good enough excuse for beating a team 16-0. I guess they needed to make themselves feel better about something......

Though Luke is a good player, by no means does he qualify for first team FAVC. The stats speek for themselves, he only had one goal in league play. Winton Woods I believe lost to every team with a winning record on their schedule. Enough said. I believe it should take at least 10 goals in league play to make 1st team along with your team having a winning record. There are a few player deserving of the honor.

There are some outstanding players in the FAVC, but no matter who posts in this thread it's going to be biased. I do however believe that Ryan Grothaus was a dominate player in the midfield for Milford(especially for his size) along with 4 goals 3 assists in League play. Should be interesting to see the lists, anyone know when they'll be up?

Are you kidding me? He is one of the best players in the league and not only will he go first team all league AGAIN, but I'm willing to bet he goes all city AGAIN. 10 goals in league play to make 1st team? There would be absolutely NO ONE on the 1st team in the FAVC. Turpin had 11 wins last time I checked and WW beat them. You don't know what you're talking about my friend. It's only your first post so I'll forgive you, but please stop making yourself look foolish.

The "TRIBE" I wouldn't think that your a WW Warrior homer are ya ? WW played 11 teams with losing records. One good game against Turpin surely doesn't qualify for 1st team honors ! Again nothing against Luke, I've seen him play a few times but your talking 1st team. How many players make 1st team and do they just pick in the offensive catagory ?

TheTribe

WW born and raised and proud of it. Sure they didn't play anything that resembles a tough schedule but if you look at the recent past of that program you will see that they've made tremendous improvement in the past couple of years. They won 1 game in 2004, 4 games in 2005, 6 games last year, and now they've won eleven. They scored more goals this year(48) than all the past three years combined. Now all of that isn't because of Luke. They have a lot of good players this year, explaining their much improved record. I'm not saying they're a great team but you gotta start somewhere and they seem to be on the right path. Coaches vote for all league players. They understand that it's ridiculous to only let players with 10 goals on the 1st team. Have you ever even seen him play? He was on first team last year and was so much more dominant this year. struggle to understand how you've formed this belief that he can't go 1st team.

How does the voting in the FAVC work?? Does the first place team coach get to pick an X amount of kids, while second place gets an X amount, etc.? If so, Luke Spencer will be on first team b/c he is the best player on their team. I've never seen the kid play, but I do know he is going to U-17 CUP red for the spring.

I just became a big Milford fan this year and I'd have to say Ryan Grothaus , Matt Servizzi, Tyler Hauerkamp (sp?), and Andy Bayerl all have a solid foot in the door for FAVC 1st team and All City. They're solid and consistent every game.

POY is usually a senior from the championship team. But it might not work out like that.

soccerpractice
10-24-07, 05:56 PM
certainly not always from the championship team.. coaches should not take into consideration whether the players team won or lost.

however, I can't see a POY coming from a team who doesn't win a game.

Claymation99
10-25-07, 01:47 PM
The decent players from crappy teams who's stats are off the charts always look good. In the end it usually does work out that the best player from the best team gets the award. However this year, there are so many evenly matched teams that it wouldn't surprise me of POYs were from non championship teams. The voting almost always ends up being good choices, so hopefully it will work out again this year.

Not really the team spirit, now is it radar10? Sounds like you don't think Ryan G. should have made 2nd team. Most of us felt he had a shot @ 1st team.

I agree with your comment about the BS on our offense, but like I said earlier, it's not just about the points! They're looking at the players as a whole package. Speed of play, fitness, skill, movement on & off the ball, understanding of the game and vision (playing head up so they know what's going on) during the game, and points. The offense was young compared to many of the other schools and they did a great job. But there are a lot of very good players (older, faster, stronger, etc.) throughout the FAVC, typically juniors and seniors. The Milford boys that missed out this year will be on the list next year. Look back on previuos years, 1st team is typically the older, more experienced players.

I TOTALLY disagree with your comment about the Sr's. The Sr defense did a good job this year and they kept Milford in the game more than once this season. Lighten up and just wish all the boys good luck going forward.

Don't have any facts, but I heard thru the old grapevine that it was Man-U's youth team. I heard it was him and 2 or 3 other boys from his club team that went there the summer of 04 and trained with man-u /played against them and a few other English youth teams. Still a heck of an honor for a USA born & raised soccer player.

radar you're a joke and a half. :wallbang: keep up the good work you moron. soccer isn't about just scoring which you obviously dont understand. as i said before, tyler and ryan g shouldve been on first team with the seniors. you're obviously a fan of milfords and im sure all the seniors appreciate the support. (yes that was sarcastic). ill personally apologize for the defenders doing their job with defending (yes more sarcasm) and not necessarily scoring all the goals. but then again im sure a lot of people agree with you in your thoughts that soccer is a unidimensional (you might have to look that word up if its too big for you) game that is just about scoring goals and being at the top of the points list (a little more sarcasm for ya).

hey radar what do you think of all that?

You are correct on both of those. I'm not saying Winton Woods is the best team in the FAVC. The team improved towards the end of the year, the Milford loss came during the worst stretch, the Loveland game was played tough but unlucky goals made it look worse than it was. The point is that Winton Woods can't even field enough players to have a JV squad, half of the kids were playing their first year of soccer, those five kids on 1st and 2nd team are what made their success possible and you're crazy to think they couldn't do it while playing for Loveland or Milford. A little respect for those players would be nice.
