View Full Version : Springfield Youth Football future

Seems there are a group of individuals within Springfield, trying to get a "black stripe" football league going for next year. They have already spoken with the Athletic Director and Head Coach, looking for their support.
If this happens, Springfield Football will again, have a major set back in trying to groom players for the next level. SSYF is on the rebound and this will only tear it apart. Currently the JV team is 4-3 fighting for a Playoff spot and the Varsity squad is 6-1, already wrapping up the Division 2 Title. There are just not enough children in the organization, to feed 2 programs, and I know many of players, who will look elsewhere to play.

Be very careful about what you guys wish for in Springfield. Green1965 has his own agenda....look at his other posts on Greens page, Falls page and Fields page. That agenda doesnt neccessarily involve the childrens best interests at heart either.

The Springfield JV did an excellent job vs a tough Mogadore team. With all the distractions and injury to the starting Fullback, there were many changes that were made at the last minute for the game. With all these changes, I thought the kids played hard, and made it interesting through 3 qtrs.
Congratulations on a good season to these Coaches and Players. The ones that hung in there all through the season, I want to personally say thank you.
As for Todd running a kickoff back, he did what he was supposed to do, pick up the ball if its kicked to you.

I'll ask you again....
Why did BYF leave the North Canton League after only two years to form another league with 7 teams from 4 school districts? Green, Revere, Chippewa, and Northwest are the only programs in the league.
Your program is in trouble and your kid will be without a place to play if you can't trick a couple of other programs to make the mistake of following you to nowhere.
I am only asking for you to be up front with those you are trying to persuade to join a 4-team league.
If you want them to come, explain the WHOLE story to them.

The website has the schedule and it looks like they have more than 4 teams for the Varsity:
Green
Glenoak
Perry - two teams
Southwest
Greentown
North Canton - three teams

Rumor has it that they couldn't buy their way to the top of the North Canton League so they decided to start their own league.....
And who knows what league what team is in with that league.....it's all a confusing mess.......some teams are supposedly in one league varsity is in another...........the whole dang thing has always been run on confusion and deceit.......the same way it was started.....by confusion and deceit.

Springfield Youth Football program has been in existence for 33 years. In an effort to afford all children the opportunity to learn team work, football and gain social skills.
This stucture has been created with wieght limitations as well as other
restrictions.
As we all know this is a small community and it has been difficult to keep
the children involved. 96% of our children have no problem with our weight.
So were realy not talking about weight its about the 4% of the parents /coaches that have no control/ cant control if there kids eats a dougnut or drinks a soda. I have seen it befor if you cant control it( Kill it.) So the real spartans need to ask do we want to trade our boys safety and tradition for few Power hungry parents/coaches .

Every team had to cheat to get kids to play this year and you know it if you had any affiliation down there. If there going to enforce the weight restrictions then why does teams bargain to let the heavy kids play. I read a post yesterday and I found out that brian the assnt. director quit because of the rule bending. So if anybody wants to get into a real discussion about right and wrong, talk to me. the funny thing is only 4 or 5 from the varsity will play high school and 2 or 3 might play because of there size.

once again i agree with thepolster, i have heard from very good resources, allot of rule bending, for weight issues. now wouldn't this be considered cheating? if so, how can we as responsible adults, support this?

As you go higher to the top you will see the purity of the players deminish. Green is brainwashed about the syl. Thats why we broke off from the dictatorship. Get your program together, and it takes allot of balls to speak your mind. Even if you have a kid playing for the syf dont be afraid to voice your opinion. You will be suprised on how many people need a person they can get behind. I know how you feel about the buddy system over there. The people that are against you probably are the ones with the smallest kids on the teams.

Dont forget about the coaching staff. There is only a handfull of coaches at the youth level who are there with no ties. Does anybody have an idea how long Doug whited has been at the youth. Besides going up to coach the high school. Mind you this guy did not have a kid playing at the youth level the whole time. The guy went 6-2 this year. Can we take leadership back with him. The guy does carry allot of respect from his players and parents

That's a funny statement because when Tallmadge played Springfield this year our commissioner and director were not aloud in at the weigh-ins. Guess who just happened to show up for the "official" weigh-ins? Dick Kapper and Walt (League President) from Cuy Falls. How convenient. Then when questioned about it, Kapper denied he was even from Green, said he was from Jackson, til someone asked, "then why is Green's Youth field named after you?"
Love how some of this stuff goes on behind closed doors.
Simple solution - Let the Head coach, Team Commissioner, and Director watch the weigh-ins. I still don't understand why this is not done. It's as simple as, "does the kid weigh 133 or less?" If he weigh's 133' 1/2" he doesn't play for that game, real simple.

You keep coming to these sites but you refuse to answer the real questions.
We understand your reasoning for breaking away from the Green Youth football. It was backed by the HS head coach and right or wrong, it was your decision
Most of us are still curious why it was so important to leave SYFA and then after what one or two years you leave that league to form your OWN new league. How many programs are involved in that one. How many of those will be involved next year?
That is the real issue.
GRPride86

And by the way, the weight issue is a huge problem with this entire league.
There are a ton of kids that would play if it were not the case. Try it for a couple of years and see if the numbers increase or stay the same. If they don't change then go back to limits.
I don't understand fully how the higher ups in the Suburban League just won't even try it. It's just disgraceful. But that's right, we are in for the kids, or is it just the kids who can make weight?

I'm not even suggesting to break away for the SYFA, I'm saying it's time for "meaningful" changes, not tongue and cheak changes.

I have been accused of being SPARTANMOM12, however, I am not. I think everyone will know who this is and that is my intent.
It was one thing for my son not to be announced at youth night. An 11 year old boy being forgotten when the rest of his team was announced. Thank God for his good humor--he just laughed that off. It was ok that at every game his number/name was not announced. It took Tina Metzgar to finally have his name announced at the play-off game (THANK YOU-Tina that made his day)--not his coach (THANKS ED).
What I want to know is how do you NOT have a trophy or a 5 year medallion waiting for him at youth banquet. How does the head coach (who announced the team's names) forget JOEY CAMPBELL again. I mean honestly. My son went the entire year with no recognition. He by no means is the "stud" of the team, but he plays his heart out and this is unacceptable and almost intentional.
I'll have everyone know this is my first attemp on YAPPIE--and I know everyone knows who I am and I hope can understand my concern. Imagine how you would feel if you were in my shoes....

heck I didnt get a ivitation or my son to show up for trophy hand outs. Maybe because I spoke out. Who knows, thats why this league will suffer. This will be changed. We have to wait to see if coach I stays or leaves before we know whats going to happen. Dont count anything out yet.

I can feel your pain Spartan Mom 67. That is totally unacceptable what they did to Joey this year. I can't believe you didn't beat someones a-- before the season was even over. You do sound like a fiesty one. Tell Joey to hang in there.

Rather than a mad exodus from the syf league can't you just get rid of the behind the closed doors dictatorship that's running it now or is that easier said than done? Without that dictatorship, this would be a great league.
