I am surprised to see you post that "flawed" rating system.
DLS moved up. Now it's gospel.

As I have said before
there is in my mind a major difference between
1)new power rankings my team is still #3 despite losing
and these rankings PROVE my team is better than yours
and
2) new power rankings (with no comment)
that you guys dont see the difference truly shows your blindness
Who said the rankings "prove" anything? Nobody.
They are opinion. They are evidence. Nothing more, nothing less.
It is ironic that Consumerman is posting rankings now when he is the same guy who has mocked them for a long time. A couple of weeks ago he posted the Calpreps ratings and then a few posts later on the same thread he said he was joking. Then he posted the exact same rankings a week later but this time apparently he wasn't joking.
Since DLS is having a good year and is getting respect in the polls, I think Consumerman likes the rankings now. That is why he has flip-flopped.

why dont you go to another kooky dinner and this time tell us what elvis had to eat

why dont you ask YOURSELF why do you create posts that say first rankings out SLC #1 and SLC still in national top three (after getting their lunch handed to them on national television) but once SLC dropped to the lower half of the top ten and now have dropped out of the top ten we don't see any luny threads from you highlighting new rankings such as this:
SLC FREEFALLS OUT OF TOP TEN - NEW RANKINGS
you should ask yourself that before GUESSING what others say feel and think
got it MR INCREDIBILITY?

LOL You want a ranking? LOL
SLC remains at #5 in the nation. (same as last week)
DLS is having the best season they have had since 2003. They are #6. Congratulations to them.

Since you are now posting rankings, do you believe the polls/ratings are a valuable tool in evaluating football teams?

Im pretty sure he dosent. But your team is falling week by week. So its pretty funny to post them now that slc is not having the star year everyone expected them to. I mean isnt that what you did last year. Taste of your own meds. And it shows that your schedule is not as good as you make it out to be. DLS beat a team by 28 and jumps to #4. Slc scores many times on a team and falls. Now you tell me who is playing te better schedule.

This is amusing. It seems a Lakeland supporter is picking and choosing which polls he wants to use. He quotes DLS as jumping to #4 but, of course, that is only ONE poll. That's exactly what Lakeland did in 2005 when they claimed a national championship. Lakeland has never won a national title if all of the polls are used.
Here's the truth:
- DLS is having the best year they have had since 2003. They are now ranked #6 in the nation when ALL polls are used. DLS appears to have a great team this year.
- SLC is not falling week by week. SLC remains at #5 for the 2nd week in a row. Of course, SLC is getting the benefit of the doubt because of what they have accomplished over the last 5-6 years. They will have a chance to prove or disprove how good they are as the season progresses.
- I posted national rankings last year when SLC was in near the bottom of the Top 10. You guys have short memories. Do you realize that SLC is ranked HIGHER this year at this point of the season than they were last year?
By George someone FINALLY GETS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, not really.
I was posting rankings last year when SLC was ranked near the bottom of the Top 10 (go back a look at where SLC was ranked the first week of October, 2006).
As SLC moved up in the rankings I continued to post them.

They're heading the other way, though.
They're heading the other way, though.
I realize that is the perception, but it may not be reality. We'll see.
SLC destroyed a 3-1 team 42-14 last week and beat a bad team 63-16 the week before with the starters only playing one series in the 2nd half. Riley Dodge is on track to break the all-time Texas 5A passing and TDs records if he keeps up this pace. The young defense is progressing well. The two injured starters on the offensive line (who haven't yet played this year) are on their way back. SLC is still a very strong contender for a Texas title.
Remember, SLC was #2 in Texas at this time last year. Lufkin was the #1 team. SLC had a very young offense (10 new starters). By the end of the year, SLC was great. It's not unlikely that the same thing will happen this year.

What a coincidence. DLS beat a 3-1 team by 28, too.
I guess it only counts if you're SLC.
who would win this year if SLC and DLS had indeed played?
I would give the edge to DLS, but by less than MNW.
SLC's weakness is pass defense, but seems to be doing an adequate job on the run. DLS would test them there moreso than any of their opponenets and they certainly have the capability of the long ball, but not to the extent of Streeter/Johnson/etc.
RD and crew seem to be settling in a little more, so I would be more confident now with the offense than a few weeks back.
I think it would be a very interesting match.
What a coincidence. DLS beat a 3-1 team by 28, too.

Yeah, but SLC throws the ball so much and keeps the starters in so late that it skews the scores.
What a coincidence. DLS beat a 3-1 team by 28, too.

Step back and think about it. THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU SAY IS HAPPENING.
DLS beat 3-1 MV by 28 and everybody is saying what a great team MV is (they are saying MV beat an elite Ohio team and that MV hasn't lost at home in 8 years, etc. etc.). The victory seems to have launched DLS in the ratings.
SLC beat 3-1 Heritage by 28 and everybody is saying SLC is moving down the rankings. Heritage is probably not as good as MV, but they are a respectable team.
You need to change your statement. It should say: "I guess it only counts if you're DLS."
Yeah, but SLC throws the ball so much and keeps the starters in so late that it skews the scores.
Depending on the game or season you look at, SLC's pass/run play calling is usually around 50%/50%.
Against Heritage it was 31 pass / 31 run.
Against Central it was 23 pass / 34 run. Starters were 18 pass / 18 run.
Against Rockwall it was 27 pass / 24 run.
Against MNW it was 23 pass / 24 run.
Aganst Lake Highlands it was 21 pass / 33 run.

I meant it only seems to count to you.
Yes, MV is (very) probably better than Heritage. So there you have it.
I'll stick with my statement.
You have enough trouble keeping track of when to change your own statements. Don't try to branch out.

That is the Biggest misconception of SLC. SLC has always been pretty even run/pass. Only those closest to the situation actually know this.
They just put up huge passing numbers so people think that it is all they do.

I have watched Cali teams this year and have seen a few that would hand it to Carroll. They are not done losing this year.
Funny that this guy makes his prediction after watching SLC out of pads in 7 on 7. They never do well in 7 on 7. He would have made the same predictions of SLC they last few years after seeing them out of pads in 7 on 7.
A 7 on 7 ref knows nothing by watching them w/o pads. I also find it ironic that he has seen a few Cali teams (IN THE SUMMER) that would hand it to Carroll.
Not saying that SLC will not lose again but - He KNOWS NOTHING and is not a credible source.

Don't know anything about what this guy saw or didn;t see, but I posted this info this summer. It was written by one of the a$m Rivals guys:
-Perhaps the biggest disappointment of the tournament was Southlake Carroll. After losing their first game of pool play to The Woodlands, the Dragons rebounded to take out class 3A Carthage. However, in the next game they took on a 4A team from south of Corpus in Edcouch-Elsa.
This was a team that honestly had no business being on the same field as Southlake. However, Riley Dodge did not have his best day. It was the cornerbacks, though, that give me concern with Carroll. When they play passing teams this year, they could be in for some trouble.
I was also a bit disappointed in the players’ reaction to being down and then eventually losing. Obviously, they are not used to ever losing on the field and they were yelling at each other and basically talking trash to their own teammates. I will say that I did not notice this from their three D1 guys in Dodge, Tre Newton, or Blake Cantu.
I also seem to recall being BLASTED for it. Also, we talked about how they have fared in 7-7, and it was far better than some wanted to admit.
I know... they were afraid to leave Texas.
I'll pose this question again this again.
Would you rather play at home on National TV in front of 32,500 people or on the road in front of 5,000 maybe?
Which game woud you think would be more subsidized and able to fund all of the expenses?
Which do you think Lad/Eidson would choose?

I believe the quote from Terry Eidson was something like..."We always travel..Its time for others to step up and come to us". (I read that somewhere...not an EXACT quote).

I think that is a fine stance. I also think it is appropriate that the school only wants one travel game a year(interesting they don't seem to mind two if it is in the Bowl game, but that's another subject I think).
People seem to want to attack SLC for not going to CA, which is very odd to me. Why would the Dragons care and have to travel simply because DLS has traveld to other schools, not even TX schools in the past. I don't see how that enters into SLC's thought process at all.
They, exactly like DLS should do what is their best interest, and you would have a difficult time, almost impossible one convincing me that the situation in Dallas, scheduling top teams, ECA/DLS(I understand there were issues)/MNW at home in front of a large crowd would not be preferable to travelling, limiting the number of band/drill team/other students/parents that could attend is not better.
I would also add that besides the quote fromm Eidson, I don;t think there was a serious invitation with financial details worked out on the table. It's easy for us fans to say come on over, much different than getting the ball rolling seriously.

No promoter or sponsor ever proposed a game in California. There was never an opportunity for SLC to go to California.
I know the promoters are very interested in large crowds at these types of games. The TV sponsor (like ESPN) want's a full stadium because it comes across better on TV.
SLC will always draw a huge crowd in Texas. I doubt the crowds in California would be large enough to satisfy the promoters or the TV folks.
Really? How do you know this?
I think this was more a jab than a statement of fact.
Fans like to point to Dodge's statement about being able to find as good competition in the area than having to travel. It is kind of funny now given the result of the MNW game, but I don't think the statement was philisophically incorrect.

Yep. And my response had the same intent.
Understand. If I were a Dragon fan I probably wouldn't be taking shots these days. I would probably wait until later in the season when the secondary starts to gel and puts up more respectable numbers against subpar teams.
I would also probably avoid taking shots at a fan whose team might likely kick my -----.
That's me though.

I understand why you say this.
However, I think SLC will be fine this year and will strongly contend for another state title.
Most people don't know that SLC has had eight starters injured this year including two starters on the offensive line, one of the two returning starting defensive players, Tre Newton and several other key players. SLC has 7 sophmores playing on varsity and most of them are seeing plenty of playing time. Many of the injuries are healed (or almost healed) and the sophs and juniors are maturing very well.
The defense is looking better. Many of the points scored against SLC (in almost every game) are a direct result of turnovers. Other than that, the defense has been pretty good. The offense is averaging about 520 yards per game and Riley Dodge is on pace to break all-time Texas 5A passing and scoring records (granted there is a long way to go).
Obviously, SLC can be beat on any given week but I think SLC will be fine this year. PLUS . . . . they have a great pipeline of younger players so the future is very, very bright.

How is that the worst thing? You are way too simple minded. MNW would probably beat any team in the nation THIS YEAR.
There were several preseason polls that had MNW #1 and SLC #2. They may have just been right. ST. X. and other top school from other states would lose too Probably Worse.
It is going to take a special team to beat SLC like MNW did, and in previous years it would have taken a special team. The Nation has not produced that one special team every year. No shame in SLC winning it all in TX if they do.
You have a serious "hate" issue. Get over your immaturity complex.
