Who do you think are among the fastest players in the city?

TwentyOne

Yeah, that one city there.... the one in Ohio....

and I believe it would be "amongst."

a little arrogant there, aren't we 21? look at her/his profile and you can probably determine she is referencing the Cincinnati area since her/his favorite school is Mason. We ain't perfect here on yappi and we ain't always grammatically correct - put your red pen away.

Lessee here... We have a high school soccer forum and an English major has to throw in his two cents and prove his ignorance. "Among" and "amongst" are both acceptable according to Websters.

Fastest players?

Casey Wettel for Colerain.

Luke Spencer for Winton Woods.

Kevin Siegel for Finneytown on defense.

Michael Rakoczy for Finneytown's offense. If you're defending one-on-one against Rakoczy, you better have an angle on him 'cause you won't catch him in a foot race.

I could say just about anyone is not that fast compared to "some kids" it all depends on who "some kids" are. Luke has got some long frickin legs and he can fly. There are kids faster than him, there's no doubt, but to say he's not that fast compared to some kids is by no means a fair assessment of his speed.

A 4.5 40? My decrepit grandmother posted a 4.56 when she was 63 years old, after two knee replacements, in her bare feet, and she forgot to wear her glasses. She flew. Used to train against Gramp's old '72 911. Boy, those were the days...

Nick Williams is one of the fastest players I have ever coach with the exception of Chris Hatfield who was clocked at a 4:34 40 yard dash. One of fastest high school player I have ever seen in all my years club or high school any division.

lovesoccer808
10-11-07, 02:10 PM
the obvious choice in this matter would be andrew jarc of loveland. his blazing speed and plethera of pull-backs makes him one of the most dangerous players in the city. his speed is unmatched to anyone that steps on the field with him one vs one hes unstopable... look out

sweetsoccer208
10-11-07, 03:05 PM
If we are talking about speed then Jeremy Powers from Mason has to be mentioned... his speed has seemed to be unmatchable duing GMC play, i saw him several times blow past defenders, i don't think many players in the city can keep up with him.

Wow, please stop hyping your son. Rakoczy is one of the best forwards in the city, no doubt, but to say you won't catch him is hyping his speed beyond belief. He is a quick player and a great one but he's not even the fastest sprinter on his team.

there are players that will catch him, i have seen it happen. but i know for a fact that there is no player on his team that can beat him in a dead sprint. if you are not on his team, as you claim to be, please don't comment on a matter you know nothing about.

eplfan87
10-16-07, 10:13 PM
You have to be joking. I agree that Finneytown has a nice defense but Bryson and Siegle on the all city team as sophomores is not going to happen. I have attended 4-5 Finneytown games and have seen they are good but not all city YET. Rakoczy and Smoker are definites, but even Schultz is a stretch for all city. Stats help a lot and those three others from FT don't have many. Kamphaus will not get all city and neither should Carter.

here is where you state you "attend" and don't play.

If you've ever watched any of the Milford games, you have to put #2, Sr defender Matt Servizzi at the top of the list.

No one has out run him or caught him, with or without the ball. I've seen him come from mid-field and catch guys 20 yds down field ( one on one with the keeper) to shut 'em down before they can get a shot off!

Fastest defender I've seen in many years around HS soccer in Cincy.

Sorry guys, he's fast !

K, I’m just going to touch on all these posts really……..

Ok, soccerdad…Wettel isn’t fast at all, neither is Rakoczy or Spencer, Siegel has a few steps in him but nothing spectacular
To all of you who spoke of Shelton…Graves isn’t all that fast. You all just need to get out more
“Me I” and titan…those two kids from Ross are not quick and no one from ross is truly worth looking at
Whoever said Niro was fast…no, the kid can run forever at the same speed but hes not fast
IHATEGOLF…hush it with that kid from Wyoming
Radar10…who are these kids you metioned?...they cant be any good
Soccerwench…that Fairmont kid? Not fast…the kids from Beavercreek? They have one fast kid but I don’t know which number he is
Cincysoccercoach…Nick Williams is definitely a step or two behind many kids
Sweetsoccer208…don’t ever mention that kids who play for mason are fast
Pitchfork…kid from reading? You’ve got to be kidding me
Fast&physical…Skeeter? No way
Italia89…Servizzi? Not fast, not good
Soccerwiseman…stop talking

One of the fastest kids in the high school game is Tyler Ryan from Fairfield
Kevin Donnely of Princeton is quick when he has the ball at his feet
And Mike Deyhle from LaSalle has a step or two over most guys

pate, you where kind enough to trash everyone on the list, but apparently you don't really know all these players. I've seen several players on the list out pace the entire Fairfield and Princeton squads. I personally don't know Ryan or Donnely, but no one on either team out ran the Milford defense, with or without the ball, when we played them during the season.

I'm not sure if it was because Mason was slow or because he was fast, but I think his name is Meyer (#10) for Elder was beating them up and down the field all day.

pate23516
11-01-07, 03:15 PM
Mason is slow, but anthony is decently fast for high school

I go to Mason
11-01-07, 04:06 PM
hmm mason is slow? That's funny because from what I can remember, and i was at most of their games, their strongest point was how they transitioned from defense to offense. They were too fast for the defense to keep up with them. their center mids aren't all that fast but their outside mids, specifically Jeremy Powers and Jordan Grant can fly.

As for Meyers flying past Mason's defense, I can only remember one time this happened and it's because Bean, the left outside back pushed up so meyer had a ton of space to run in. I can remember three separate times where the mason defense was able to out run the Elder attack. Jones in the first half on Meyer, Niro all alone on Meyer in the second half (which he almost lost) and Bean on number 12? I think his number was 12 in the second half.

Now that I'm done with my rant, I know it doesn't matter. I'm not upset, Elder is a GREAT team that I hope goes far in the tournament. They beat my comets, but now they have to represent all of cincinnati. Come on panthers, bring us that championship!

I think the argument here is related to the definition of fast. There are fast players - 10 feet dash fast with and without the ball. There are fast players - quick feet on the ball. There are fast players - 100 yards plus with and without the ball. My guess is that all of these players fit one or more of these fast categories. Guys it's the end of the season. Give the guys some positives to take away.

Italia, of course you're going to think highly of your own players; I dont need to know the players personally to know anything about their game, I've played with them, against them, or watched them play and I know enough about the game to be able to break down any of those players to see who is fast, good, terrible, or whatever
and fyi, I do play

the reason you never saw anyone out pace the milford defense was because they always played a good 7-15 yards behind the strikers, with that kind of cushion noone should be able to run past them.

Italia89
11-07-07, 11:30 AM
All Star, I don't think I can agree with the 7-15 yds at all. There are times when having the D step back is req'd, but it surely was not routine for Milford to stay in their defensive 3rd.
