View Full Version : SLC Wins 63-16
SLC beat Keller Central 63-16 Friday night. Central is a bad team which seems to give up 50+ points every game.
A few interesting points:
1. SLC's soph kicker hit the goal post cross bar on a kick-off. There was a slight breeze which helped. It got a nice cheer from the crowd.
2. Riley Dodge and Tre Newton played one series in the 2nd half.
3. SLC's defense gave up over 300 yards. :(
4. SLC scored on every possession with zero punts and zero turnovers.
5. The back-up QB looked real good as did the 2nd string soph RB. The subs seemed to move the ball just as well as the starters.
6. Attendance was about 11,000, probably more.

Dad,
Was wondering if you could list the five highest ranked opponents SLC has played? I would imagine that one was Trinity last year and MNW this year. Maybe Katy?
Could you inform us of this and the result?
Thanks

Are you talking all time? Rankings at game time or final rankings? Which poll? MNW is the highest rated team that SLC has ever played.
Off the top of my head, SLC has played the following teams ranked nationally over the last 3 years alone. In some cases, SLC has played a team more than once.
Katy
Lufkin
Denton Ryan
Plano
Abilene
Trinity
Allen
Smithson Valley
If you really want to understand strength of schedule you need to look at much more than a few games against top opponents.
SLC usually plays 4-6 teams ranked in the National Top 200 every year. That is why SLC's schedule is usually one of the toughest in the nation. Most of these games come in the playoffs.
For example, in 2005 SLC played 6 teams in the national top 200. StX in Ohio played 5 teams. DLS played zero teams in the top 200. Lakeland played zero teams in the national top 200. (all of this according to calpreps)
In 2006, SLC played 5 games against teams in the national top 200. Colerain played 4 teams. StX played 3 teams. The Ohio champ Hillard Davidson played 5 games. Lakeland played one team in the top 200. DLS played 2 games against teams ranked in the top 200.

Its just my opinion but based on some of the teams I know once you get past the top 50 its pretty much who cares.
Other then MNW has SLC played another team ranked in the top 10 at the time of the game in say USAToday ?

Really? I disagree. Teams ranked in the top 200 are the top 1% of teams in the nation. SLC plays 4-6 games every year against teams in the top 1%. That's huge. In the last few years none of the top national teams have played as many as SLC. You seem to think that one game against a top 10 team makes a tough schedule. It doesn't.

Katy, Trinity and Lufkin have all been ranked in the Top 10 in the season that SLC played them. Whether it was in the USA Today poll in the specific week the game was played I have no idea.
