Just curious if anyone has any info on this.

There should be but do it with fewer teams. There is no reason to bring in 11 teams. Bring in the nations top 6 against your top 6.

Put good games on Sunday and have them broadcast.

I think the 11 team format was good.

I would like to see Steubenville play Highlands.

Did anybody notice that they featured Steubenville during halftime of the Giants-Cowboys game?

I am very proud to say I was born there. BTW, my avatar is the helmet for the Steubenville Catholic Central Crusaders. The Big Red of Steubenville (the team featured) used to be our crosstown rivals. I am also proud to say that my family knows Coach Reno Saccocia (I hope I spelled it right, I usually get it wrong, to my embarrassment) and family.

Go Big Red.

Roll Red Roll.

Play Gilmer Texas. Gilmer is a small town and they would roll Big Red. They send 5 kids to big time D-1 every year.

What is the enrollment of Gilmer?

Cleveland St. Ignatius vs De La Salle (Cal) at BYERS FIELD

Cincinnati St. Xavier vs Mater Dei (Cal) at UC

Cincinnati Colerain vs Katy (Tx) at UC

Youngstown Cardinal Mooney vs Chicago Mount Carmel (Ill) at Fawcett Stadium

Dublin Coffman vs Indianapolis Warren Central (Ind) at Fawcett Stadium

Cincinnati Elder vs Chicago Brother Rice (Ill) at THE PIT

Columbus Saint Francis De Sales vs Indianapolis Bishop Chatard (Ind) at CSFDS HS

Cleveland Mentor vs Miami Northwestern (Fla) at Fawcett Stadium

Steubenville vs Highlands at Steubenville's Stadium (Uncle Baldy's idea)

That would be my dream lineup for next year.

Mentor & Mooney will lose the majority of their football talent after the 2007 season.

So IMO inviting them in 2008 would be a crapshoot.

Gilmer's coed enrollment is 668. They are a salty 3A school in Texas.

Steubenville is a Division IV school in Ohio which I believe means it has a male enrollment of 187-256 (I'll have to double check). Gilmer would probably have an advantage with regards to enrollment. But if I know Reno, he would make sure his kids would be ready to play.

BTW, Steubenville moved to Division IV from Div. III this year. Since 2003, and including this year, Steubenville is 57-2 (43-0 in the regular season, and 14-2 in the playoffs). They were State Champs in 2005 and 2006. In 2003, they lost to Cleveland Benedictine (the eventual state champ) in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, this year they are in the same region as Youngstown Cardinal Mooney which means that one won't be in the State Championship game provided both go to the playoffs.

BTW, what kind of town is Gilmer? Steubenville is a blue-collar steel town on the banks of the Ohio River. Those of us from that area, the Steel Valley, pride ourselves on our work ethic and putting hard work and sweat into everything we do. We are a pretty tough, resilient bunch. Ironically, in 2005, the two high schools in Steubenville, Steubenville and Steubenville Catholic Central, went to the championship game in their respective Divisions (III and VI). SCC lost to a very good Delphos St. John's team. Not bad for a town of about 25,000.

Tell me a little more about Gilmer. Are the town and people similar?

Gilmer is a rural East Texas town so it is a "speed" team. The area is not an affluent area of the state. Not real sure of the primary industry in the city. Noteable players in the last 3 years

2007 - Justin Johnson - RB (committed to Oklahoma), Houston Tuminello -WR (committed to Louisiana Tech). David Snow - OL (Committed to Texas), Lamar Harris - DB (Committed to Texas A&M)
2006 - GJ Kinne - Texas - QB, Curtis Brown - Texas - DB, Jamal Kennedy - SMU
2004 - Emanuel Johnson - Oklahoma, Kevin Hollis - Kansas State, Tay Bowser, Mississippi State,

Burger King is signed up for a three year sponsorship, so I'm pretty sure you'll see a Herbstreit Ohio vs. USA Challenge in 2008.

Dublin Coffman vs Indianapolis Warren Central (Ind) at Fawcett Stadium

Columbus Saint Francis De Sales vs Indianapolis Bishop Chatard (Ind) at CSFDS HS

I don't see the point in having Indiana or Kentucky schools in this event. All of the above games could be scheduled easily without the Herbie. I think Coffman is in for a rough year next year anyway, but I'm not sure about DeSales.

I'd like to see DeSales or Watterson take on this Gilmer team, though. It's a shame that neither got the opportunity to play Buford this year.

I like Mater Dei, Katy, Miami Northwestern, and Mount Carmel (or Joliet Catholic), though. Since the new sports marketing company running this thing is based in Chicago, you'd have to think they're going to get a Chicago team in this event soon.

Give St. X another crack at a Florida school in St. Thomas Aquinas. They will be loaded next year and are just as disciplined as St. X. A well coached, talented team. Also, their Offensive coordinator is former Buckeye, Cris Carter.

I'd love to see a Katy matchup with any of the traditional Ohio powers. It would be a very well played and competitive match-up.
