Ohio finished 4-7. Just goes to show that there is a lot of good football being played around the country.

I would like those of you who attended or watched the games to comment about what you witnessed.

As for myself, I drove into Cincy from Virginia (8 hours) to watch my nephew and Moeller play. I though Moe did pretty well considering that they got down 14-0 pretty quick. They had a couple of chances to put the game away, while leading 22-14, but couldn't quite do it. For the second year they lost the game at the end. However, this is the second year that they played top opponents tight and I applaud them for their efforts. I also thought that the speed of the Diablos receivers had a tremendous impact on the game. The Moeller secondary got burned repeatedly.

I also got to see the last 6-7 minutes and the overtime of the Colerain-Hoover game. The Colerain team I saw during that time was not quite the Colerain team I am used to seeing. However, I did see a lot of talent on that Hoover sideline. In the end, I believe the Hoover coach really screwed the pooch and lost the game by poor clock management and the Colerain defense came up big when it had to.

I also got a chance to see the first half of the Elder game. I would like to have seen the rest but I was feeling pretty fatigued. I'll be honest, I really thought that Independence dominated Elder pretty thoroughly. However, football is a four quarter game and evidently this worked out to Elder's favor as I have never seen Elder players give less than four full quarters of play and that is a testament to their coaching staff. From what I gather, they simply outlasted Independence. It makes me wonder if usually putting away opponents early didn't have an impact on the outcome. I do want to note that I thought Independence's discipline was excellent. They are a very well-coached team.

I also watched the entire St. X - DeMatha game. There is no doubt in my mind that the depth of St. X proved decisive. Also, the gameplanning of their coaching staff was excellent and it showed. They showed so many looks to DeMatha that I don't think they knew what hit them. BTW, I saw a lot of studs on that DeMatha team. No wonder they end up with so many players playing at Division I schools.
