Trinity has a great team year in and out because of their diversity. They have a great mix of Tongan, White, Black, and Hispanic.
Another pic of their boys from a 7 on7 tournament

I do not.
I am a Lamar homer. They kept my Vikes out of the '86 playoffs handing us our only loss that year in the last game of the season. Ended up at 9-1 and tri-district champions along w/LD Bell, but we sat at home because only two teams went to the playoffs back then.
Since then we pretty much owned them, knocking them out routinely in the early '00's.
They got the title that has eluded Lamar, which has arguably been the better program over the years(not the last two). I am bitter and wish them no success.

Pied,
How did they break the three-way tie?
I know in Friday Night Lights (the book; I never saw the movie) they used a coin flip.
Losing out that way has to hurt.

By the way, in the NFL in 1967 the Colts were 11-0-2 going into the last game of the season.
Lost to the 10-1-2 Rams 34-10.
Missed the playoffs since they both ended up 11-1-2, and the Rams beat the Colts once and tied them once.
Four divisions, four playoff teams total, no wild cards.
The other division winners were 9-5-0, 9-5-0, and (the Super Bowl II champion Packers at) 9-4-1.

Score differential.
We beat Bell 7-6,
Bell beat Trinity, but it had to be close.
Going into the last game, we were 9-0, Trinity and Bell 8-1. Bell was playing some loser team and was going to win.
We had to win the game, we would be 10-0 District Champions and Bell would have gone as the runner ups.
Or lose by no more than 7 or 8(it's been awhile).
We lost 20-10 and stayed home. Trinity and Bell met in the quarters and Bell won. They lost to eventual champion Plano.
I became bitter. I do respect the program though.

I think Florida a while back (70s and/or 80s) had mini-jamboree deals for three-way ties.
All the teams would show up at the same place, and play a round robin of one-quarter games or something like that.

That is crazy. There is no good way to decide. Especially in that situation where the three teams beat each other, but otherwise were undefeated.
Fairly certain this was part of the decision to let three teams in. While, I can see the validity, personally at least, the way it was carried out was silly.

I call that stupid. I think it works ok in basketball or baseball, but deciding a football championship or game based on a 12 minute mini game is one of the dumbest things I have seen.

And some teams get byes for a quarter, and it's done in the middle of the football week (Monday).

3 of the top 5 teams in state were in that district.
Bell should have beaten Plano losing 24-28. I watched the game, Plano had a lucky touchdown pass that went right through a Bell defenders hands. (should have been intercepted).
Plano went on to Romp Houston Stratford. Bell, Trinity and Lamar could have won state that year.

I am pretty certain Plano beat LaMarque that year and Stratford the following year in '87. It was a rematch of the '78 title game, w/Craig James. I remember that because I watched that game live in VA on ESPN and they made a big deal about it. Don't let people tell you the DLS/ECA game was the first HS game broadcast live nationally.
Those were three pretty salty teams, although I wonder if Lamar would have fared well w/little playoff experience at that point. The QB was OK, not as good as the one that came the following year.
I think I am the one responsible for bringing this so far off topic. My bad.
Trinity does get a ton of National respect for a team that has not been undefeated ever. I would probably think more about them had they beaten SGP in '05.

Dad,
What percentage of the team would you say works out here in the off season?

I have been to that velocity center several times - As soon as you enter you will see pictures of many SLC players. This Training is very expensive.
I would say close to 90% of the SLC players are at some paid training improvement facility. Maybe half are at Velocity training. But that is old,old news.
On top of a strength, agility, power training, most are also working on their skills at Dodge's quarterback/receiver camp and other skill camps. This is also on top of 7 on 7 tournaments which occure all summer long. The team is constantly together working on skill and power.

Performance Course is a competitor to Velocity Sports. Performance Course bought the naming rights to the SLC indoor practise field. Velocity Sports was mad because they said they would have paid more for the naming rights.
I don't know what percentage of the players have paid work out programs but I'd guess that a few do. However, at the high school level the programs of the teams themselves are rigorous so I'd guess the number that participate in outside programs is limited. As I understand it, Performance Course will be offering programs in the indoor factility at the school (which is why Velocity Sports was mad). These programs are for the community and probably mostly used by younger kids who's parents have delusions about the potential of their kids.
The SLC football teams are in the middle of spring football right now so I doubt many players are doing double duty in a paid program. BTW, the offense looks like they are ready to go right now (what else would you expect with 9 returning starters). The defense is progressing but there are quite a few open starting positions yet to be decided.

Lamar is the only team I'd say has Trinity's number. It certainly would be an honor for us to get to play Lamar again. I guess the National respect comes from I think only Southlake and Katy(this could be wrong but close) have won more games in the state of Texas recently this decade and the only ones to win more 5A state titles this decade. And let me address this before anyone posts inaccurately 1) No I don't think Texas High School Football and it's teams are the be all-end all every year and lord over everyone else's football 2) Pied is certainly entitled to his opinions about Trinity football and 3) No I do not believe my program which I do love is infallible or poops ice cream. An undefeated season does represent a goal currently uncompleted, I can only hope that we can humblely make it through another tough road(this time umblemished lol) next year to a state title, which would further validate our recent national recognition.

To be honest, I like Trinity football. Still pissed about events 20+ years ago, but I have always like the school, along w/Bell. I wish they would get abck to the glory years.
I do harbor ill will though, and am jealous of any program winning titles when one has escaped my team.

I understand, I think we both would be happy if Lamar would return to prominence.
