Par 3 courses. They teach you how to hit irons. Reeves is about as good as it gets for someone just starting. Wide open, not a lot of elevation change and the greens are not exactly tricky.

Meadow Links in Forest Park. An executive 9 hole course with par 3's and short par 4's. Its kept in pretty good shape and offers multiple sets of tees. Its ideal for a first timer or a recent beginner who wants to work on their game. The majority who play there are beginners or more novice players as well so there wont be any pressure from holding people up.

If you're over the westside then check out Woodland. VERY short, but always in good condition and a great place to work on the irons.

not my first choice. when the fairways play like hard pan (after floods) it can be a bit tough for a newbie to launch the ball

HAH! Played the par 3 at Reeves over the weekend and shot a 20 over par 47! First golf experience was not the best score-wise, but it was so much fun.
Went back today to redeem myself and went for 2 rounds, shot a 10 over 37 and a 12 over 39.
What's a good score for this course? Par? Under?

I would recommend the Dunham golf course on the westside for beginners aswell. Father looked it up online and we gave it a try yesterday, very nice course for a public par 3. Changes in elevation, a couple of minor sandtraps, and 2 'longer' holes give players a chance to hit fairways and improve their game more than at Reeves, IMO. But both courses are very good for beginners.
