This may sound crazy, but even though Springfield's record is 0-8, I have noticed some improvements in the Team play. I think the play calling is 100% better than it was during the first 3 games, and it looks to me, that the kids are giving the xtra effort that was lacking earlier in the season. I think they might be able to keep this weeks game close for 3 qtrs. The offense has been able to move the ball fairly well and if their Defense can cut down the number of big plays allowed, this could be a close one for a little while.

Good luck Springfield. I really hope they can find a way to salvage these last 2 games. Keep your heads up and play as hard as you can. These last 2 geams may be the final football games for some of these kids.
Leave it all on the field. Hopefully, when I open the Beacon tomorrow morning, the headline reads something like:
Springfield shocks Coventry to gain first victory of season"

Or something like: "Coventry gets the SHOCKER from Springfield!"
That was one of the saddest excuses for a varsity football team I've ever seen.
With pay-to-play a coach would have to be nuts to take over this team next year. Of course ANYTHING would be an improvement over what this staff does. Offense, Defense and Special teams are all HORRIBLE.
Your offense is incredibly bad and your defense is a joke. A BIG JOKE.
I'd guess there has to be a real chance this school cancels its football program.
Ravenna is not that good, but they will beat Springfield by 30. These seniors, I'm sorry to say, are gonna end up 0-10.
Good luck in basketball...

The only thing you can say to the Seniors and the rest of the team for week 10 is, you have 1 more opportunity to go out on the gridiron and COMPETE. Most will never strap it up again after their SSenior season, and if they do not take advantage of the opportunity that they have before the mthis coming Friday night, leave it all on the field, they will regret it for the rest of their lives.
Once again, from a Garfield fan, to the Springfield players,
PLAY HARD, PLAY WITH SMARTS, PLAY AGGRESSIVELY, PLAY FOR THE PASSION OF THE GAME, PLAY FOR YOUR TEAMMATES!! PLAY FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR SELF-RESPECT! It is easy for the other kids in the school to crack jokes about you being on an 0-9 team, butthey are the ones that are losers, not you! You put in the time and the sacrifice, what did they do? They opened their pie-hole and ran smack about you! Anyone can do that! While your season has not progressed the way you wanted it to, you can hold your head high that you stuck it out and you played hard. You may learn more about yourself from this season than from a great winning basketball season. It teaches you humbleness, how to rally around your teammates, and that you are not alone in the disappointment.
Go out on Friday and play with FIRE and PASSION that high school football is supposed to be about! Be the player that is going to make every play. Tell yourself, "I AM GOING TO MAKE THE NEXT PLAY!" Don't wait for your teammate to do it. Take care of your responsibility, then make the play that could turn the tides of the game! You never know when the next play will win or lose a game! MAKE THE PLAY!!!!!!!

Shiloh,
thanx for being such a good sport.
On another note, the QB was injured on the 4th play of the game. In case you didn't notice, he was unable to lift his arm above his waste, but did not want to show the opponent, he was hurt. With him being the largest part of the Offense, that was a reason they struggled to move the ball Friday night. Even with an injured shoulder, he continued to tuff it out and stay in the game, to try an make something happen. Unfortunately, it hurt the team more than helped. He has taken every snap this year because the backup QB quit after week 3. Anytime you lose your leading passer and leading rusher, your gonna struggle. I'm sorry you witnessed a horrible performance on Friday, but if the QB wasn't hurt, I think it would have been closer, that how it ended.
I congradulate the players on Coventry. They took advantage of all the Springfield mistakes, and cruised to an easy victory.
2 the Bank,
thanx for your words of wisdom. It has been a tough season for all the Seniors. Even with an 0-10 record, these kids will have memories of Friday nights, the rest of their lives.

Exactly, and I feel this way because I am not used to seeing the season that Garfield had this year either. The Garfield kids played hard the past 2 weeks and beat a horrible Kenmore team, and then played very well against a pretty good Buchtel team and had opportunities to win that game. The kids are playing for the name on the front of the jersey and not on the back. the coaches got rid of some of the cancer and they are now playing with a passion not seen on this Garfield team earlier in the season. It was always someone else's fault that the team lost, the players would not look at their own short-comings and mistakes. Sometimes you have to add by subtraction, and eliminating players and all of the negative things that are said about the team and coaches, and go out and smack some people around on the field within the rules of the game.
So go out there on Friday night Springfield, play with passion, spirit, togetherness, and PRIDE, and leave out there on the field. There is no next week, there is only Friday night and a ton of memories. Win or lose, make Friday night a night you will remember for the rest of your lives, and make everyone in your family, on your team, and most of all, YOURSELVES, proud!!
Hey- I was being kind. I was just telling it like it is.
I don't know how much football you've seen in your life, but it sounds like you know a thing or two. So I'd like to know if you've ever seen a worse team?
I hope the QB is ok. That hurts when you lose your key man.
But didn't they lose every game by 3-4 TD's? So I disagree that this game could ever have been close. We normally throw the ball 35-40 times a game. How many passes did we throw? 15-20? We could easily have scored 70 if we wanted too. And when you're scoring points in the 4th quarter, its against everyone's JV and freshman.
I've seen bad football before, but this was the worst. I'm not putting the blame solely on the kids. Whoever made the decisions for your program there needs to live with this. In fact, these kids who have gone through 4-5 months of this kind of season deserve a medal. God bless them.
It doesn't help the PTC if Springfield is going to be so bad. They need to get better, just not too good ok???
At least its your turn to be on top with basketball and baseball! We've got to wait a whole 10 months to be good again :-)
Go Comets!
