Battle of the fields. Can the Spartans ruin Homecoming for the Falcons? Things look bleek, but the kids need to dig deep down, and I mean deep, to try and find some sort of reason, to play hard, all 4 qtrs.
C'mon Spartans, don't give up yet. I know its tough, but find a reason tp give a 100%. There ares still a few fans out there who are cheering for you. Play hard and stay healthy.

5 games down, and 5 to go. At the beginning of the season, I would have predicted Springfield to win this game, but with all that has happened with the team this year, not so sure anymore. I hope to see 4 hard fought qtrs by the Spartans. I think they can hang in there, if they play the entire game with confidence and heart. The Offense has slowly gotten better, but the Defense has been struggling of late. Defense needs to step it up and create a few turnovers tonight. Keep the Offense in good field position. Don't be afraid to open it up. Use the high percentage passing game to keep the sticks moving. Using Shotgun formations seems to be the strength on offense. Hopefully the play calling won't be so precictable and can keep the Falcons guessing.
Good luck tonight Spartans, they'll be a few of us still cheering for you.

Might I be so bold as to say Springfield loses...again?
Springfield 14 Field 9 Final (???)
They announced this score on WHLO. Can anyone confirm?
Any news? That would be a shock.
The AP is reporting:
Mogadore Field 19, Akr. Spring. 14
Maybe I just misheard the radio...but at the same time, there are some errors in the AP scores. They have Canfield losing 34-13 when they actually won by that score.
Hopefully someone from the game can confirm which it was.

19-14 Field.
This was a very hard fought game. Springfield dominated in every catagory, except the most critical one, the score. Springfields Defense once again struggled in the first half, giving up a 64 yard toduchdown on the very first play from scrimmage. Halftime score was 19-0 Field. The second half was much different as Springfield moved the ball at will on Field, but Penalties and Turnovers killed many drives. A very suspect call against Springfield, cost them taking the lead late in the 4th as the Line Judge(way out of position) called the QB for passing over the line of scrimmage. Upon further review(once i got home), he was clearly not over the Line. The ref was running ten yards down the field chasing the pass when the Field coach started screaming at him to throw the flag. Instead of Springfield having first and 10 at Fields 4 yard line, it made it 3rd and 30 at their own 45. Oh well.
On a side note, I thought the play calling was much improved. There were many short passing plays called, mixed in with some Reverses whci kept the D on their heels. QB was 17 for 33 passing with 213 yards passing and 122 yards Rushing. That has to be the most passing attempts in one game, in the 6 years I've been watching Springfields HS team. Congrats coach. I hope you stick with that type of balanced attack. It worked well.
All and all, the Teams performance was exceptional. They did not give up in the second half and battled all night, almost coming out with the victory.

Glad to here the offense was opened up a little bit. These kids need to find a way to salvage something about this season. Especially the seniors.
I played on the Springfield basketball team in 1991 that went 0-22 as a senior. There were 3 seniors, but the other 2 were hurt all season and did not play. That was the toughest year in sports that I ever had in my whole career. Especially after transferring in from Hoban after winning the D3 state championship in 1989. I talk about that season alot. It was a very humbling experience as it was the only team that I ever played on, in any sport, that had a losing record, let alone didn't win a game.
These seniors need to get together and set a goal of some kind. If they win out, or salvage something with this season, it gives the underclassman a reason to be optomistic about next year. If they lay down and don't care, Springfield football may be no more!
IRISH...rumor has it that you are very close;) to a player/players on this team. Stress the importance of salvaging something!
Good luck friend.

It is difficult to show support for a team that is struggling, when the negatives outway the positives. I believe in the saying "losing is contagious". Once your in the mode of losing, you play not to lose, instead of playing to win. I feel there is a difference. You end up focusing, so much, on not screwing up, instead of focusing on what you need to do to help the team win. I too, am not used to losing. I was a part of a HS that has a history of winning also, and to see someone close to me, not able to experience winning, as I did, is difficult. I have a State Championship also, and wish everybody could experiece that.
I am close to many of the Football players(one in particular), and am doing my best, to keep their spirits up for the next game. I saw a performance last week from one of the players, I will remember all my life. I have never seen so much heart and effort given, in one game, than this player showed. It was one of the gutsiest performances I have ever seen.
Th2 dad,
I won't hold it against you, because you attended Hoban.:p
