What do the numbers at SYF look like this season?

Numbers look to be around the norm for Springfield. I don't have the exact figures currently, but we should have enough for 2 Flags, 2 C's, and 1 B, A, JV and V. Youth is in constant competition with the Junior High, so the Varsity will prolly end up with around 15-16 players.

I'll know more after this weekends Registration and try and gve you a better idea, Monday.

The Varsity team should be improved from last year, as they were extremely young in 2005. If everybody returns, who has stated will return, I look for them to be much more competitive.

I just read the part that Varsity is playing for free. Is this new to get re-established versus the junior high or has this been around for a while?

Yeah, fairly new. Its been this way for 2-3 years now. Its been tough competing against the Junior High for players, and with the Funds in pretty good shape at SYF, they thought this would make some of the parents decision's, a little easier. Its the same format for Chearleaders.

Sign ups over the weekend turned out pretty good. I dont have exact numbers, but:

JV and Varsity have around 20 players each.
A is down a little, with around 15 players.
B has close to 20
C has over 42 Kids
Flag is sitting at 15 currently

I was also told that there were many calls made to the Director last night, from Parents who missed the Sign Ups and still wanted to sign their son/daughter up.

From the looks of things, Springfield should have 1, possibly 2- Flag Teams, 2 C Teams and one of the rest.

Looks good. If they can get "A" up a little bit and a couple more on the flag to get two teams, that would help out everyone. Personally, I almost wish they would keep 7s in flag one more year. I wonder how much burnout there is each year when a kid starts playing in pads at such a young age. At the very least, allow marginal players to play flag one more year.

Equipment handout, Sunday, 4:00 PM at Schrop Middle School. Must bring Physical Forms completed.

First day of Conditioning for all Squads, Thursday, 5:30 at Schrop Middle School.

High School Youth Camp, for all Squads, Friday and Saturday, at Springfield High School. Mandatory for Varsity players.
