Woman hits $8M jackpot, casino claims machine malfunctioned

Just wonder how many times the machines malfunction in favor of the Casino but neglect to tell the gamblers???

A woman in Oregon hit the $8 million jackpot at a Lucky Eagle Casino slot machine, but got no money.

The casino said it was a machine malfunction and gave her $80 instead, reported KOIN’s Lisa Balick.

Veronica Castillo took her mother to the casino in Rochester, Washington last weekend. She put $100 in a machine and hit the jackpot — she thought.

You make a good point. I wonder what happens when the machine "malfunctions" in favor of the casino. Why couldn't someone who won 80$ say..Well, I should've won 8 million but the machine was malfunctioned, so give me the rest.

I dont think I have ever seen a slot jackpot that high. Which makes me think it's a messed up machine. Especially on an Indian Reserve Casino lol. This would probably bankrupt their entire operating budget.

I understand the hesitation to give her the $8 million for a malfunction, but at least give her more than $80, good lord.

I don't know much about slot machines, but could they not claim malfunction every time? I assume there must be a way to prove it?

The machines have certain caps on the jackpot. Something clearly glitched out as the highest jackpot I have ever seen from a machine is like $2.3M and that was a progressive in Vegas. No crappy indian reserve would ever have an $8M pay out.

It was probably an antique machine and the $80 is probably what she actually won. And the machine added on a few extra zeros.

What's the crappiest casino you ever played poker in tbg? You being good at the game, did you ever go to some slummy Indian casino in FL or something and just clean up shop? Or did the people there get scared off after a few games and stopped playing? The only casino I've ever been in is the Horseshoe, which is just about what I expected and I have no desire to go back. Always laugh at the gas station/kino "casinos" that are all over Montana and wondered what type of poor sap actually goes into them.

The worst I have played at out of 40-50 I've been to:

West Palm Beach Kennel Club
Horseshoe Southern Indiana
Belterra
Leelanau Sands (Indian reserve in Michigan)
Imperial Palace (Vegas, has since been renovated)

Most all the indian reserve casinos in Florida are pretty nice actually. Like The Hard Rock in Tampa or The Isle in Pompano. I've always done very well playing in FL. But yea the Seminole Indian tribe does things the right way, very nice places, good customer service, and good food places.

The only shady reserve place I've played poker at was in Traverse City, MI. I was with two of my friends at the table and we immediately noticed some blatant cheating that the table. And some questionable actions by the dealers (accidently folding a tourist's hand during a big pot, flashing cards at the locals) Played there twice. I think I was a small winner the first time and lost a bunch the second time. I will never go back.

I've never seen those gas station places like you mentioned but there is a poker player here in Cincy that is banned from those and every casino in Wisconsin. Around 2008/2009 he found a glitch in the video roullette machines that basically allowed you to drag your bet off of a number and on to red or black after the ball had already came to rest. And still get paid. He made over $200k and eventually got caught because he fleeced some place that had a camera right on his machine.

Most all people that go to these places are just like the regular clientele at the horseshoe, all degenerates.

Actually it doesn't really sound like he has. However it does sound like maybe you have, since you seem offended for some strange reason.

Just making an observation. Never been to Montana.

Seems like you are offended at my perceived offence. Are you offended easily?

Not at all, I find your offensiveness amusing. It does appear that I offended you by observing you were offended by Sig's comment. My apologies.

At first I thought this lady got hosed....but if it was a game where that sort of payout was not even within the games regulations then yeah......they did the right thing.

If it was touting you can win up to 8 million (or more) and she got that reading and then they tried to backpedal....then that would have been a raw deal

I am offended by e_p's amusement of dado's offense to the observation of he being offended by sig's comment.

As such, I demand the President of OSU's resignation. He hasn't done a damn thing to stop this.

lol the Kennel Club looks awful on google images. Not surprising at all the Indian place tries to cheat, because most of the people in them are to stupid to notice and wouldn't be able to do anything about it even if they did.

For those that don't don't know, a gas station casino looks like this: (and a lot of times much, much worse)

They are at almost every gas station in Montana, where people like Ray from Trailer Park Boys go to blow every dime that they made last week. Probably alot worse in western MT where there are significantly more reservations and oilmen, but I've never been to that part of the state. I believe they're in ND and WY too but I've never seen them there. I think there is a place like that in Lawrenceburg along US 50, actually.

In Dr Drake's defense, he did try to stop me, but I'm an unstoppable beast.

I'm more an more turned off by local casinos....I play slots..which are yes, terrible, but....they've been extra terrible.

Why anyone plays slots is beyond me, worst odds in a casino. In particular the idiotic Wheel of Fortune slot machine has been called out as really bad. If intimidated by playing a table game at least do video poker, it may not have that huge jackpot pay out and you kind of just chug along but at least you give the casino time and get more credit to comps.

But of course the best game with regards to odds, straight black jack, now has the fewest tables in a casino. Finding an open spot at a craps pit is also tough because the pass line with odds is just as good as black jack.
