Great list jmog!

George Tompkins placed 1st in 1978. https://www.ohsaa.org/sports/wr/boys/PastResults/1978.pdf 2nd in 1979 https://www.ohsaa.org/sports/wr/boys/PastResults/1979.pdf both at 126.

Robert Tompkins placed 2nd in 1971 at 120 (the only year he wrestled!) https://www.ohsaa.org/sports/wr/boys/PastResults/1971.pdf
Fixed. Not sure how I typed that in wrong, he was only my defensive coordinator back in football and my sisters basketball coach through HS.

It’s interesting that Mogadore has never had a 4x placer and only 3 3x placers in John Tompkins Sr, Stratos, and Paul Skye.

Nick Skye probably would have been a 3 time placer if not for this year’s cancellation.

agree on Skye being a three time. Knight probably had a good chance to become a 4 timer as well. Sucks they didn't get a chance.

I find it amazing with such an incredible Football Tradition at Mogadore over the past 50 years and no HVY weight wrestler from Mogadore has ever placed at State.

I have to say that I'm really jealous of your medals. I may have to redo my list.

I can’t take credit for this it was all Coach Chidlaw’s (Chidy) typing. Coaches Burnett, Gillespie, and Chidy put in the work to come up with this list also. This year was Elyria 60th season so this was a great addition to our season during down time. Elyria wrestling on Facebook posted 2 weight classes a day for a week and would post 1 or 2 pictures of the 1st team top guy each weight class. I just waited and copied and pasted into a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, HM team format. This seemed to be a big hit mixing the younger and older alumni into teams as we had a lot of old alumni come onto Facebook to comment.

Not bad for a closed enrollment public school from Youngstown area
Wasn't there a lightweight for Canfield in the 80's that was a multiple time placer? Lower than Jim, I am thinking 103-112. Can't remember the name.

I would love to see what could be thrown together for Lake Catholic. Only issue is I think most of their champs are all bunched up weight wise

I find it amazing with such an incredible Football Tradition at Mogadore over the past 50 years and no HVY weight wrestler from Mogadore has ever placed at State.

Let’s just say over the years the football program hasn’t exactly encouraged players to wrestle.

Collin Kelley bulked up and wrestled HWY in college at CSU.

agree on Skye being a three time. Knight probably had a good chance to become a 4 timer as well. Sucks they didn't get a chance.
Knight couldn’t have been a 4x placer. He didn’t place last year as a FR. He could have/would have been a 3x placer if not for COVID.

Back in the 80’s LC had some hammers! Vic, the Sullivan brothers, and there was another pair of brothers (forget their last name) were really good though. Thought their dad coached track at Euclid?

Someone should post Cadiz ! They were awesome back in the 80’s
Cadiz, Bridgeport, Bishop Ready in CBUS all had some great wrestlers and some good teams.

It was nice to see someone do Licking Heights line-up. They were also pretty damn good back in the early/mid eighties...

Tiny Bridgeport beat the NE powerhouses with the great Bobby Doughlas in the lineup. I believe they are the only team to win D1 (no D2 or D3 when they won) outside of NE and Toledo St Francis. Not sure if I'm missing any other team, but I'm sure I'll be corrected if I am.

You're correct on the Bobby Douglas part. There was also Dave and Chick LaMotte and W. Talarchyk,(sp) I believe. As you said, if I'm wrong someone will correct me.
Used to go to Bobby's camps at West Lib back in the early eighties. MLB's Niekro Brothers also were Bridgeport HS guys...
