When will your CC team start practicing again?

When does your Cross-Country team plan on starting practice again?
(My understanding is that you could being practice as soon as May 26th according to OHSAA)

Also, what restrictions or adjusments will there be for your team at practice?

I'm curious what everyone is doing and what the different approaches are going to be.
Or if your team is not planning on starting practice at all yet.

Our kids are running on their own this week. Next week we will have some small group in person sessions A couple of times. Mostly so that we can start to meet the new kids.

HMMM... My source tells me that their team will be on their own until July. Then they will have non mandatory Tuesdays and Thursdays. Practice will start August 1st. Sort of if it ain't broke. This is not 'Nam, this is Cross Country. There are rules!

Don't over coach and get to the casino as often as you can in the summer. Let the kids breath. Don't helicopter coach. In these un Presidented times.

The good thing about the casino is, sometime you win,...
If a kid can't breathe, I don't want them anyways.
In this 21st century, I prefer a drone.
I thought these were un Governored times?? (President can't tell him what to do!!)

We figure that our veteran kids will be fine running mostly on their own for the first half of the break at least. We want to see the new kids a couple of times just to get to know them. We are going to rely a lot on our captains keeping everyone feeling connected. One of our biggest concerns is the lack of direct access to trainers. So we are going to be a little more cautious than normal in terms of when to rest or cross-train. It is my experience that with XC kids you can mostly rely on the ones you need to doing what they are supposed to.

We are waiting on the districts legal team to decide when to start, until then no face to face coaching is allowed
We are having a virtual end of the year coaches meeting tonight where I'm sure some questions will be asked. We aren't allowed to have any track and field kids anywhere near the school. Stadium is locked up and shot and disc area is off limits too. Essentially school grounds are off limits. If that is the case, how can they allow off campus coaching? I'll have some answers at about 7pm. (I really don't anticipate having any real answers, but we can hope.)

Restrictions and rules not worth the trouble to do a coach organized runs so will start up after July 4th. Sure the kids will be meeting up on their own.

I still think, by rule, we can start cross country practice on August 1st. Kids are allowed to be running on their own and coaches have 10 days during the summer to "practice..." we will be meeting with 8-10 times up until the first practice like usual. The difference is that we will meet at the local park or the track (when it opens) instead of the school so we can be outside and maintain social distance.... and running groups will be smaller.

For me, I will wear a mask when addressing the team and make sure they don't share water bottles, wash and things like that. I also will have Clorox wipes and had sanitizer for them to use.

They waved the 10 days max to have contact with the kids during the summer for fall sports. You can meet with them as much as you want. I don't know if that is only for this year or from now on.

All of our fall sports started voluntary conditioning this week. Basketball doing drills this week too. Must adhere to strict guidelines approved by our county health director. Some of the kids are chomping at the bit to do something. Others have parents that are very guarded. Emphasis has to be voluntary and no penalty for not showing.

Doesn't it seem odd that it's a county health department issue? I'm sure they are fine folks that are knowledgeable in most things they need to be, but wouldn't you think that the CDC / Federal government, or at least the State Health Department should be in charge with something like this? Does the Health department in Portage County have the same resources that the CDC or State of Ohio has? Darke County? Guernsey County? There are big differences in resources from country to county. Seems like there should be more uniform rules and requirements.

A successful solution in any community will be one that is actually implemented. It should be founded on science but it has to be consistent with the values of that community or the plan won't be implemented with fidelity.

The CDC or even the state of Ohio doesn't have the resources to manage that kind of granularity.

The CDC, federal resources, Ohio, etc. can and should provide guidance based on science and expertise based on past experiences with pandemics. I believe it is best for local authorities to use that guidance and to work with their communities to determine how to create and implement local procedures.

We have to keep track of the kids that are there and report ANY sickness that could be related. Groups of no more than 10 the first two weeks. The kids/parents also have to sign a waiver that is now in Final Forms.
