Lost Command (1966) - I was very disappointed in this film. I was interested in it because I like Anthony Quinn and it sounded interesting as it is about a French Foreign Legion battalion which suffers defeat in French Indo-china (Vietnam) and then faces a revolution in French North Africa. Instead I found the story contrived, the acting bad and the message very confused.

3/8

Gamera 3: Jashin kakusei (Japan-1999)

Kaiju Horror: 11th Gamera movie but the 3rd of the re-boot.... Gyaos is back but this time a spawn known as Iris mutates and becomes a serious threat to Japan, meanwhile a young girl seeks revenge on Gamera for the death of her family and uses her psychic bond with the creature to attack..... It is Iris vs Gamera but the once promising reboot fails for me in the finale..... 3.0/8

Had to get the final Gamera movie out of the way and now it is time to start the 31 days of HORROR for OCTOBER and what a great way to start with this 80's cheese gem......

Blood Beach (US-1980)

Horror: It is now safe to go back into the water but it is not safe to get there. That is right, something under the sand is preying on beach goers and it is up to the rad lifeguard and his ex chic to figure out the mess. Oh boy, there is some good cheese with this 80's flick and for a bad movie it will not disappoint those who are into this. Give me more like this!!!! .... 5.5/8

day 2

Tusk (Canada-2014)

Horror: A pair of pod casters do shows about strange people and look one of them is that Sixth Sense Kid, lol, well desperate to do another show Wallace fly's to Canada to seek a story but ends up with something else when he answers an ad from a strange old man. This one gets really bizarre and disturbing while becoming uneasy with the comical moments. Refreshing from North of the border..... 4.0/8

Judy (2019)- Biopic about Judy Garland. The movie focuses on her later years with flashbacks to her abusive youth. The movie is very good. Renee Zellweger is outstanding. One of the best performances I have seen in a while. The movie- 7/8. Zellweger- 10/8.

day 3

Countdown (2019)

Horror: Countdown is an app that tells the user the exact time of their death. It is all fun and games until one learns that her death is just a few days away. Strange things start to occur as fate closes in...... There are a bunch of movies like this but I don't get tired of them... This one wasn't too bad.... 4.5/8

day 4

La notte dei diavoli (Italy-1972)

Horror: "The Night of the Devils" ... a man stranded in the country side is taken in by a family who fears the dark. A family curse they say and when the elder tells the family if he does not return by 6 don't ever let him in..... This is a strange one but when is that not the case with these 70's Italian flicks..... 4.5/8

Fargo (1996) 4/8 Never watched this until this weekend. I know it pretty high on a lot of peoples list, but I wasn't that impressed. It was okay, but not up to the level of other Coen brothers movies I like. Frances McDormand and the guy playing her husband were great though.

Mask (1985) 5.5/8 Eric Stoltz plays Rocky Dennis a teenager with a disorder that causes his head to be deformed. Really good story and a good cast with Stoltz, Cher, Sam Elliot and a bunch of others playing smaller roles.

The Invisible Man (2020)

Horror: Blah.... man beats woman, she escapes but is freaked out.... man commits suicide but someone she cannot see torments her..... typical Hollywood BS which so many lame scenes for me to mention.... that being said it had its intense moments and was some what enjoyable.... 4.0/8

Woodstock (1970) - Waited until now to watch it and saw the 3 1/2 hour director's cut. It is a very well done documentary. You could almost smell the pungent odor of pot smoke mixed with campfires and body odor. I have always like Santana but watching his clip, I have become a bigger fan. It is almost heartbreaking to see that only about 10% of the attendees stayed long enough to see Hendrix that Monday morning. Poor planning as far as I am concerned. They should have had Hendrix in prime time Saturday night.

7/8

day 5

Bloodsuckers (UK-1971)

Horror: Richard has disappeared in Greece while doing research and his buddies are on the case stumbling on a bizarre blood ritual. Oh boy.... make sure you watch the uncut version with the orgy scene well, though this is not a Hammer film it sure felt like one with some cheesy fight scenes to boot..... 4.0/8

No Time For Sergeants (1958) - 4/8

William Stockdale, a young Georgia backwoodsman is drafted into the Air Force against his pappy's wishes. Stockdale's sincere naivete causes his military career to careen quickly, and hilarity ensues.

My first time watching from start to finish, had never seen the last 40 minutes. The first two-thirds is pretty funny for its time, but the final one-third drags on interminably. Griffith originated the starring role in a one-hour teleplay in 1955, then was starring in the expanded Broadway production later that year. A little bit of Griffith goes a long way here. Those drawn-out phlegmy exclamations are like fingernails on a blackboard after a while, otherwise I might have given it a 4.5.

An interesting cast. Myron McCormick steals the show as Sgt King, a low-key bureaucrat who works diligently to keep the military waters and his life calm. Nick Adams plays the Harold Lloyd/nebbish-type weakling here, and moved on to become a weightlifting nut and starred in TV's "Rebel" as Johnny Yuma, dying much too young of an overdose in 1968. Jamie Farr plays a USAF co-pilot, and a young Murray Hamilton appears to have been the model for the Cosmo character in the "Beetle Bailey" comic strip.

You watch this film and keep wondering to yourself, "when do they start the actual basic training"?

Doctor Detroit
Found this on Peacock TV the other day. Not sure I can even rate it. Maybe 2/8? What was Dan Akroyd thinking???
He was probably thinking "This movie helped me get Donna Dixon to dump Paul Stanley for me. Does it get any better than this?"

Amityville: The Awakening (2017)

Horror: 10th installment.... this one just ignores all of the others and takes place 40 years after the original murders. OK, so we have a mom looking for a great deal and sure enough it is the house that she moves her family in including her comatose son (it's Ian from Shameless!). Well, it does not take long for the older sis to discover what house they moved into and soon she believes that the house will wake her brother so he can repeat the murders..... This one was not that bad and that damn house scares the crap out of me as I watched the original as a child... oh the nightmares..... and still this day I am freaked by houses that have those window designs....... 4.0/8

Slender Man (2018)

Horror: Teen girls fool with the Slender Man legend and well..... you know the story. So what gives, going into this I knew it was hated by most so I had very low expectations but just wanted to get it off my list so I checked it out. Other than being a bit boring in parts and those stupid affects it wasn't really that bad..... 4.5/8

Las mujeres panteras (Mexico-1967)

Lucha Libre Horror: The Panther Women ... Female wrestlers and their masked super buddy take on the satanic Panther Women who can turn into panthers.... 1.5/8

Scared Topless (2015)

Horror? .... well, it was listed as a horror movie and what a bunch of crap that was as this was nothing more than soft porn which is the worse porn possible. Let see what happens here.... college kids watch a couple have sex and learn they are going to visit a haunted house. One does not want to go but a large breasted woman has sex with him to get him to go. A couple more go see a psychic who convinces them to have a 3 way...... etc, etc, etc...... even the ghosts get in on the act..... Not much to like as this goes down as one of the worse horror movies I have seen..... 0.5/8

Carrie (2013) 4/8 Remake of the original from the 70's. I thought this one was decent. Not much different than the original, but a modern look at an old story. Better than a lot of the horror movie remakes I've watched.

Hubbie Halloween - Sandler's latest Netflix movie. Not very good but I did laugh more than any other Sandler Netflix movie. He brought back a bunch of old Sandler stuff and people. I think I am also yearning for something funny. Outside of covid I'd probably rank it even worse. Stupid but cheap laughs. 3.5/8

Acts of Violence (2018) 2.5/8 Similar to Taken, starring Bruce Willis and Cole Hauser. A young man's fiance is kidnapped by human traffickers. His brothers, former Army Rangers, help him get her back with the help of a cop (Willis). They tried to pack too much into 90 minutes without a lot of details. Predictable story, had potential but never got there.

The Conjuring (2013) 5.5/8 Big fan of these movies. Story follows the Werner's, a husband/wife team of demonic forces fighting bad es, as they attempt to fight a demon possessing a mother in an attempt to murder her children. Supposedly a true story, who knows. It scares me and that's all that matters.
