Confessions of a Nazi Spy: 6/8 Been meaning to get to this one forever as the only pre-war anti-nazi move (there were a couple cartoons in the early 30s) due to Hollyweird being afraid to lose money. Until this one soaked it up, then they got balls. Pretty close to the real story. Of all the lists of must watch WWII movies, I'm not sure why this one wasn't, but it should be.

Different thread during the year, I'd mentioned I'd seen PRE-WW2 movies with the problems in Nazi Germany mentioned. It was no secret. This one explicitely mentions "concentration camps." Originally released in 1939, I couldn't figure how it had clips from the 40s. Reading a bit, they re-released in 40s with added scenes.

The Rule of Jenny Penn (2024)

Horror: John Lithgow.... enough said. He plays a psychotic tenant at an assistant living center where he finds a new target with the judge who is a newcomer. Solid performance but not sure it went anywhere..... 4.5/8

Pee-wee as Himself (2025) 7/8

Two part documentary on the life and career of Paul Reubens.

Paul sat down with director Matt Wolf before his death and did several hours of interviews.

Very well done. Available on Max.

Trying to figure how I could possibly find a doc about Paul reubens interesting but 7/8 is a hard to debate recommendation. Might squeeze that into my summer list.

Black Narcissas. (1947, a time when UK whose bisquits we just saved, put 70% tariffs on Hollywood pictures).

Not the story I thought I was going to get. A good one though. The lead Debora Kerr was actually I thought, the weak link. Pre-CGI and known for it's scenery. Made me wonder if there are any modern directors that would even attempt to do it the old way, with art work and camera tricks?

I watch a lot of documentaries. I also grew up in the 80s, when Pee Wee was everywhere. Paul was always a guarded (and private) person, so this was very insightful to me.
I do like docs, though not have generally watched them when about entertainers. I was too busy with other things to watch much tv in the 80s, early 90s. I know (think) he was a comedian that had a kid's show but not exactly a Mister Rogers (who I also never saw but great movie).

Do you think it has to be personal to enjoy or will it stand on it's own? I have to see if I have access to it anyhow.

OT: saw a thing, listing all the godzilla and monster movies on TUBI. Jaws was in the list. Today is the day I realized, I've never seen Jaws.

Might have to correct that.

Don’t watch it on Tubi.

Next month is the 50th Anniversary and it’s returning to theaters.

Watch it for the first time in a theater.

That will no doubt be an event. Theatres don't really hold any special place for me though. Don't know anyone in my circle for that matter, that still goes. I'll have to ask, see if anyone is interested. Now if we can watch it on a boat...... :D

Edit: maybe. I mentioned it. Might be some interest. IDK, going to a theatre with all those old thugs, kind of risky. And none of them can hear worth AF so they talk too loud. Might be fistacuffs.

Sept 5 (2024)- the Munich Olympics massacre from the perspective of what was going on in the ABC broadcast center. Very well done. One of the best movies I've seen this year. 6.5/8.

Accountant 2- 5.75/8. Decent, not up to the level of the first movie but worth the watch if you have Prime.

Sinners (2025) 6.5/8 Very well made, Michael B. Jordan is really good in dual roles. My only knock would be that it seems like a direct ripoff of Dusk Til Dawn. Maybe that's petty, but the only real difference is the element of surprise and the time period.

Captain America: Brave New World (2025) 3/8 Started pretty strong, but seemed to get worse as it went on. Thought they failed terribly with the ending and the CGI was too much. Looked animated more than it looked like special effects. I keep hoping Marvel gets back on track but for the most part, they just keep letting me down. I have heard a lot of good things about The Thunderbolts, so I'm looking forward to seeing that one.

I struggle to ever buy the “marvel getting back on track” notion.

3 of the last 5 movies are in most people’s top 15 of the 36 movies.

Definitely see Thunderbolts.

American Fiction (2023): Hilarious. I'm kind of social commentaried out and only watched because I liked Jeffrey Wright's sci-fi efforts. This was perfect for his snark.

In A Violent Nature (2024) 5/8 A masked killer is raised from the dead when his grave is disturbed by a group of young people camping in a national park. A lot of violence, blood and gore. This one had the feel of an 80's horror B movie. Solid slasher movie. I look for there to be a second one. vamp if you haven't seen this one, I think it would be right up your alley.

*Spoiler Alert. (Eh, not too much).

Caught it (again) Wednesday afternoon on AMC. Well, all but the * drinking/scar comparison scene when I zonked out. What?!? During Jaws?

Suspected I couldn't last through three hours with commercials, however, suprised I made it through four hours of Braveheart the next day. (AMC)

Hmmm... I wonder why? :sneaky:

I saw it this month actually just haven't updated my watches yet for this month.

In a Violent Nature (2024)

Horror: Saw this a few weeks ago. NewOldBlood posted the plot so I will talk about what I liked and did not like about this film. This one was different as for most of the film we are behind the undead killer. One scene was about 5 minutes of it just walking around in the woods. No issues with this if they would of just kept it this way through out. About 3 to 4 times though we leave the killer and we end up at a camp site where campers are telling stories. Another a couple of girls talk about going swimming another a woman in a car picks up a survivor and tells a story. Why? None of it adds character development and this film was not about that. I wish they would of kept us behind the killer during the camp scene. the kills were pretty sweet including one I had never seen before and I am not sure it is even possible. Another sweet scene was the lake scene where we see the girls across the lake. The killer heads into the lake disappearing under water and we just wait and wait until he reaches the other side. They should of kept the scene at the distance but we get a close up at the other side. The breaks to me was a distraction. Another problem was atmosphere. There wasn't any and I think it really needed it. I don't think there was a score either.

I would of liked it better if it was one straight shot of us behind the killer. Similar to that of the French film Irreversible. Lot of potential here ... 3.0/8

I know exactly which one you're talking about lol. Also liked the lake scene and would have preferred the distance shot.
