Western Reserve coach on leave. Accused of vaping THC in bathroom.

The Union may somehow keep his teaching job but no way he keeps his coaching position. If I had a kid playing and they kept him, I would be transferring him to another district. People make mistakes and he can recover from this, however, there are still consequences. It is a shame he put himself in this position. It is a bigger shame for his student/athletes to have to experience this with someone they looked up to so much.

This is what sometimes happen when teachers and coaches try to be one of the group instead of the leader.

“Now teacher, don’t ya fill me... up with ya rules! ‘Cause ever’body knows that SMOKIN’ AINT ALLOWED IN SCHOOL!”

This dude is a d*** anyways for what he said about Trimble in 2013.
Tried to look up what he said, but the article from Athens newspaper is behind a pay wall. Can you summarize?

This is actually more of a Union vs Education question. How hard will the union fight to defend one of "theirs" vs the value of a child's education. Especially in a strong union area. That's going to be very interesting to see how it shakes out.

Oh, and he's a complete dipwad.

From Jason Arkley, Athens Messenger (12/01/13)

“It was Hake, an adult, who went to midfield and yelled at his team — while Trimble players were stretching just yards away — that “the REAL athletes on the field are over here” with a point to his Blue Devils.
It was Hake, according to several sources, who told his team prior to kickoff that he would quit the next day if his team lost to a bunch of “Muppets’ — a pointed reference to Trimble’s penchant for colored mohawk haircuts.
It was Hake, again according to multiple sources, who chided the Tomcats when they walked past the Western Reserve locker room with taunts like ‘You’re not playing Nelsonville tonight’ and ‘They’re just a big show.’”

Stop with the Union bullcrap. Point blank he was involved in illegal behavior that will supersede any argument that even the most insane union could have. He should and probably will have his license revoked by ODE , this issue is far greater than a contractual issue that a union could or would contend. Additionally not all teachers are in their respective districts unions so your whole argument could be moot as schools are not “closed shops”. Your union arguments are asinine attempts at some of you trying to sound “ in the know” when in all actuality it just makes you look like a moron.

Yeah it’s really hard to root for Western reserve ... this guy is a joke

Not so fast ... at school I use to work we had a teacher get caught with drugs ... the school and union were already to get rid of her, but her own lawyer had her go into rehab and was diagnosed with an addiction ... which is a disease ... which made her fall under the federal law of people with disabilities ... the school could not fire her ... they did reassigned her to non-teaching assignment ... lucky for us she did something else a few months later that allowed the school to part ways with her ... they shouldn’t have any trouble getting rid of him as a coach, but as a teacher, maybe not ... sad but true.

Yeah unfortunately no one goes to rehab for weed. So I don’t think that’s gonna fly.

Question is...How obvious is the video that captured this? And did he have the "Pen" on him? Or was it in his classroom? Need the evidence. He does have the kids come out to play for him. Hopefully, it's not for the wrong reasons. Vaping is a serious problem with the youth "today."

No need for "evidence". He admitted to doing it to the superintendent.

That's all I was trying to say. As Andrew Brandt said "There will be lawyers..."

Thanks for sharing. That is a very well written article, but also hard to read in parts. Saddest part is Hake has now disgraced the memory of all the kids who've played for the WR program under him and especially those that made that run.

Bring back Kopachy! Looks like he is trying to get back into the area considering he applied for every job that has been open. He was the one that set up the program for Hake to take over. Everyone knows Coach K is the reason WR is one of the best small school programs in the state. If he had some of the teams Hake had they would probably have 2 state titles. They should be begging him to come back.

Actually the Union does not have a leg to stand on. The ODE and the OEA (or what ever state organization that the teachers belong) follow Federal Laws due to some funding coming from the Federal government. As of now the use of THC is outlawed at the Federal level, so schools must follow that. I just had to sit through an in service that this was one of the subjects covered.
