PERRY TWP. The West All-Stars decided to pull out the train in their final two Baker System games, and they ran right over their opponents.

Leading by 8 pins heading into the final game, the West finished with eight strikes and a 234 to take boys honors during the fourth annual East-West All-Star High School Bowling Match on Saturday at AMF Hall of Fame.

"We talked about doing it before the matches," West coach Bill Reese of Massillon said. "We did it last year, too."

After dropping two of the first three matches in the series, the West boys rolled up 3,679 to the East's 3,594 to even the all-time series at 2-2.

In the girls match, the East took a 221-pin lead after the two regular games to cruise to a 3,157-2,967 win for its third win in the series, sponsored by The Repository.

The format included two regular games and eight Baker System games.

The East boys had taken a 4-pin lead after game 8 with a 247 Baker game. Then came the train, with the West using all eight players on its roster in rotation.

"We wanted to do it the last two games," West coach Roger Webb of Perry said. "We just wanted to have fun ... get everyone involved."

The West outscored the East, 428-339, in those final two games. The West held a 38-pin lead after the two regular games.

Individually for the West, Jackson's Kyle Freeman had the high two-game series of 423, with Perry's Ory Shoemaker adding 415. McKinley senior Kyle Stein led the East with a 463 series and a high game of 258. Minerva's Jared Cox also shot a 225 game for the East.
