WCAL Football 2024

Hopefully it’s a good game between Coventry and the Chipps next week. Look forward to going.
Define good?
I Dont Think So No Way GIF

Tuslaw 21 Chipps 0
At times the Chipps were their own worst enemy. Two interceptions set up the Mustangs for two quick scores. The Chipps got inside Tuslaw’s 25 twice in the first half and came away empty. In the second half the Chipps played much better defense and again three more trips inside their opponents 25 and dropped a pass in the end zone and overthrew another. The Chipps had two good stands inside their 10, turning Tuslaw away and blocked a 35 yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

I attended the Smithville game last night. The Smithies are improved from a year ago but will not compete with the likes of Norwayne, Dalton or Hillsdale. I am going to go with the Smithies to upset Lucas this coming Friday....... I think Lucas is a little down this year. I am hoping that Smithville gets their starting QB back this week.

If they play like they did against Claymont, I don’t see them beating Lucas. You can’t put the ball on the ground 10 times and expect to win many games.. Thankfully they only lost 3. The secondary for Smithville is definitely a major concern. Hillsdale, Dalton and Norwayne will throw for however many yards they want! Let’s hope the run D continues looking strong

Ehhh. Catching some of the Dalton replay this morning… They have no defense. Just playmakers.
Awhile back I posted that it seemed the new Dalton coach didn't seem to care about D as his teams had given up an average of over 31 pts/game for multiple years. Unbelievably that number has gone up after 2 weeks coaching Dalton. Obviously Kirtland impacts that number significantly and it won't likely cause too many issues in WCAL except for a couple of games . . .

You called it.
The DB’s are very good as a unit. I would say the LB’s are good dropping into coverage on obvious throwing situations. The D-Line is…okay. Highland was a pretty big line but were sucking air. Previous Dalton lines would have gone to work here. They seem young. They have no blitz. And zero idea how to contain a QB on the move. There’s a ton of room for improvement on that side of the ball, but no indication they seem to care. Does Leek have a DC? Oh no. Is he the DC?

The Soph QB continues to impress. But if they find themselves in a game where things aren’t working is the D gonna keep you in it? As of right now, No. Not at all. Imagine Mogadore starting 0-3! Still think has the makings of a trap game. Unless… the Wildcats are just that down this year.

They are wayyyyyyy down. Saw them scrimmage and they are small and unable to stop the run. They may go 5-5 which is unheard of in Wildcat country.

That’s rough. But it happens. If Mogadore can’t stop the run I’m sure we’ll see Dalton in plenty of 5 wide empty backfield.

Mogadore unfortunately lacks # this year in addition to losing key players already to injuries. 0-2 for 1st time since 1975 says alot about this storied small school program. I'm sure many area schools would like to be as successful as Mogadore has been. But this year will be different, hopefully the Wildcats can be at least competitive in their coming games. I'll always be a fan regardless! GO WILDCATS!!!!

Looking forward to traveling to your stadium this coming Friday!

Hopefully you like the stadium. Parking is somewhat hard because school lot is small. Street parking in neighborhoods your best bet. Watch signs indicating which side of street is legal!!
This might be the best information posted on this site all season! First time we went drove past Mogadore's Finest writing tickets and realized pretty quick this was going to be a good night to follow the rules. ; )

One thing you can count on is that the Wildcats coaching staff will get everything out of the kids that they have. They will also get better as the season goes on. Their is too much tradition and high quality coaches over there to just lie down and accept mediocrity.

Was told Mogadore would be 'down' this year, but as you say, down for them is a "not bad" year for 75% of the state. Friend was at the Ravenna game and, based on his texts, you'd have thought the Ravens just won the Super Bowl.

Despite all the jabbing over the years, have a ton of respect for Mogadore & their fans. As "real" as it gets in Ohio football.

AMEN. Coach Adorni is the REAL DEAL.

That's the way it is with local teams when they beat Mogadore. Ravenna a city school about 2x size of Mogadore, but at their home stadium had less fans. I'd imagine about 200 total with a band numbering 15-20. And they only suited up 35, but speedy.

We also have to remember that a Freshman QB was at the helm for Smithville on Friday. The Smithies have a stout run defense thus the reason that Im looking for the upset against Lucas. Thank God the Smithies have a decent kicking game lol. If the senior QB returns I think that Smithville will have a chance to open up the offense a little more...... it was very vanilla and one dementional because of the QB situation. The pass defense was awful and gave up two 60+ yard touchdowns. I think a fourth place spot in the league is the best they can hope for.

Sadly, half of those fumbles were by other players (3 running backs, punt returner and DE on the INT) If they can shore the mistakes up, 4th place is a possibility. Both TD passes were 80 yards back to back after Smithville had the momentum

We’re not comparing apples to apples here, boys…

Ramsey era football saw massive participation amongst a TON of other legacy coaches with storied programs. And of course a nearly impenetrable playoff window.

I don’t know if playoff results are the fair comparison…

With that being said, Dalton has won more league titles in one the states oldest and of course nearly unchanged leagues.

What I would say is, finding a great coach is almost impossible today. Keeping them around harder still…I just want to know who screwed it up because now I have to watch Tuslaw.
Dial would’ve just quit after this season or came up with another personal reason to step down because of roster leaning out after this year.

We might have some juice here folks! In THIS thread!
We appreciate what he’s done and trying to have an open mind for leek. Tough situation for him in a tough/loyal community.

Don’t let Dial fool everyone and act like he was a savior and didn’t do anything. Shoot a Dalton cop is on his coaching staff at Tuslaw 🤔

My friend, you gotta open the can before you spill the beans…

Why would last years players not respect him?
Why does a Dalton cop on his staff matter?
Why resign last year, not this year? Good team back.

Go ahead caller. I’m listening…

I know he tried to quit twice during the season last year. I have heard several players say they didn't necessarily like Dial and the way he did things but played for him because they love football. I have never heard of senior's playing in jv games until the last couple of years. I feel it is wrong because it is taking snaps away from kids that are going to be your future.

Alright. So, off the top of my head, and lacking any context…(assuming it’s within the rules?) Having a senior take snaps in a JV game could be for a variety of decent reasons that might make perfect sense with a few more facts. I guess.

What I’m most curious about is what our new poster was referring. Why does having a Dalton cop on his Tuslaw staff mean something? As far as kids not respecting an authority figure in their teenage years…no kidding? And why would Dial try and quit twice last year? (This leaves the door open to say it was in fact the Dalton admin making his life hell)

Doesn't matter that Pearson's dad is on his staff. From what I was told by several people he got mad at the beginning of the school year last year, he was observed in the classroom and didn't get a good review. My son took his class last year and told me the only thing they did was watch videos and worked out of a book. I still think both were in the wrong.
