Way too early predictions for next year?

Elder with the 3-0 win over Louisville St. X. Starting lineup was OH1 Maune, OH2 Lanter, Middles- Zimmer and Busken, Opp. Maurer, Libero Scwallie, DS Harvey. Got off to a slow start in the 1st and played better as the match went on.

How do we think this lineup will compete with the predicted St. X lineup next Friday?

I think success for St. X comes down to Meyer. They need him to be really good this year. If he isn't on his A game I'm not sure they have enough from the rest of the team to beat Elder.

Looks like Walnut is legit. Lost first two bs Moe 25-23 26-24 without both middles. Should be a very competitive year.

What did Walnut’s lineup look like?
Without both middles out they had Smith-Trondle blocking out of the middle in the front row and playing opposite a sophomore who was in the middle, but didn't really affect things. As expected Wheatley and Tombragel played as the OHs. Strangely, they both had rotations when they were not passing in serve receive.
DiNardo from 17-Gold played opposite and played 6 rotations. Limoco from 17-Gold played the other opposite spot but had a back row DS. Apparently Guy Wilkins (also of the 17-Gold team) quit the team, unfortunately. His height could have helped them at either middle or opposite.
They had a sophomore, Swift (16 Red I believe?) at libero, he looked solid.
As expected, it is the Wheatley, Tombragel, Smith-Trondle show. And those three were good enough to keep them in games yesterday with significant holes in the lineup (no starting middles) and with some interesting coaching decisions.

If they figure out their rotations and Moyer and Welden can just be average in the middle, they'll be very tough.

Do we know if the middles are hurt or something? That's a shame about Guy. Think he could definitely contribute this year and next towards a pretty solid team as either a MH or Opp. Although, having ANY rotations where either one of the OHs aren't passing in serve receive seems...not smart at all and will only make things tougher on the team as a whole. Interesting seems to be putting it very nicely.

Given the scores, it sounds like WH could've definitely played Moe even closer and taken the match deeper if they had those missing guys and had their two best passers always passing.

Moyer had teeth removed the day before, Welden wasn't in town per parents present.

Ferris has been phoning it in for a few years, IMO - especially when it comes to scheduling ?
Maybe it's time for him to move on then. Any kid playing any sport deserves a coach who's putting everything he can into the team. Especially a school with the talent X perennially has.

Well, well, well...not what I expected. X takes Elder in 5. 5th set was 17-15. Seemed like Elder had a lot of missed serves, but, admittedly, wasn't paying attention the entire time. On that note, X just seemed to play a cleaner match all around and Elder didn't seem to have any answers for Bentley Meyer. Elder's gotta clean up their serving and serve receive if they're gonna live up to the lofty preseason expectations.

Super early in the season, though, so plenty of time to fix things.

X and Moe are gonna be super fun next year; tons of underclassmen getting playing time for both teams. Both are already good this year, of course, but next year is gonna be something between those 2.

With Lasalle taking Moeller to 5 last night also, it looks like the GCL is going to be very interesting this year. I will agree that Elder did not play very well last night. To many missed serves and very inconsistent in serve receive. Looks to me like they are going to need a little more offense from someone other than Maune. Whether that means more consistent play from Lanter or one of the middles stepping up, until they get that there will be alot of close matches for Elder. I was also very surprised how well X passed the ball, Huber had a great match.
