Warren G. Harding 2024

Indeed Ed. One of the two we commonly used. That leaping Panther was in the 60’s I think. In the early 70’s Harding just had an “H” inside an oval. My senior year we had the famous Panther Head and claws on one side and WGH on the other.

This is the first installment of my "Mahoning Valley NCAA Report" for the 2024 college football season. While my main goal for the site is to promote Warren G. Harding football, this project gives me an opportunity to shine a light on the collegiate careers of all of the area's young men.

If anybody notices any names that are missing (I'm sure that there's quite a few) or if you have any additional information, please let me know ASAP. Thanks in advance!

Nice job! I like to see good news in the Valley. Last news I heard was the Trumbull hospital closing and thousands of jobs lost. It sometimes seems like the Youngstown/Warren area can’t catch a break, so following some of the area young folks in college is a nice positive.

Also, I watched the WGH vs McKinley game and was impressed with the progress already evident as a result of the new coach. There is plenty of talent on the team. Once the coach has his program firmly entrenched I have a feeling R5 will be a fun place for the Raiders every November.

I recall, from old photos only, Harding’s leaping Panther being slightly different. My memory could be failing me, but my old programs are all packed away so I can’t be certain. Need to dig all those out someday.

I appreciate all the hard work you do, Worm. Good stuff.

After the game, Perry head coach Zach Slates said the following to Mike Popovich of the Canton Repository…

“Lake (Perry’s opponent next week) is going to be a whole lot better than Warren. We have to get it figured out. We have seven days to do it.”

Given the fact that Perry outscored their 1st two opponents 52-0, you’d think that Slates would show more respect to a team that drove the 🏈 90 yards on their game-winning drive.

Not to mention that Perry’s left offensive tackle jumped their snap count several times last night while the refs ignored it (I have the footage). Personally, I’d be more concerned with that than throwing shade at Harding.

I told Mr. Slates about himself on X. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I can see still see Jimmy Valentine running the length of the field a couple times against UA. I was eleven years old.

I rewatched the game in last five years ago on YouTube I think. It may sound strange, but that game was ALOT closer than the score indicated.

Alright Matty Rich and the Raiders STV will not be a cupcake so keep this train rolling. Best of luck to the Raiders. Massillon Perry was a great win.

KG, on behalf of the 74 State Championship Committee, you are formally invited to the after party at the BV to reminisce about that season and your experience at WGH & East Jr. See you at the game and the BV.

The second installment of my 2024 Mahoning Valley NCAA Report includes an additional 21 athletes from last week to bring our current total to 64. I'll continue to add more names as I get them.

If anybody has any additional info, please let me know in the comments. Thanks in advance!

Yeah it sucks, but that’s why I got us covered! 😁

You put a LOT of time and effort into your work on covering the Raiders. I think I can speak for all the Warren fans when saying we appreciate you, Worm. In fact, your previews and reviews are so in-depth and well done that the opposing teams’ fans appreciate you as well and that’s not even including all the Mahoning Valley coverage you do. Great stuff, definitely! 👍

Thank you! On my end, it's a lot more motivating when my efforts are encouraged and appreciated from within harding's program. I can't tell you how positive things have been around here lately.

On that note, here's how Mahoning Valley natives fared in their NFL contests during week 1. The athletes in this report include...

A) Those who played high school football in the MV
AND
B) Those who were born in the MV, but played high school football elsewhere.

Can’t it be true that he respects Harding and he believes Lake is a better team?
