Walsh Jesuit baseball looks to get back among state's elite

To say that standards are high in the Walsh Jesuit baseball program is an understatement.

From 1999 to 2010, Walsh reached the state championship game six times, winning four state titles.

Thus, the fact Walsh hasn't won a district title the last three years constitutes a drought by Warriors' standards.

"It seems like quite a while since we made that trip to states," said veteran coach Chris Kaczmar. "It's not that we had bad seasons, we just didn't get the job done. We're excited about this year."

Kaczmar, who enters his 18th year in charge of the Warriors, believes this year's team could be the most talented since Walsh's 2010 squad which finished as state runner-up.

"We're finally, I think, back to the point where we do have a tremendously deep team this year," Kaczmar said. "We're going to enjoy the process and get better every day. This year, our players are very athletic."
