The Warriors were able to place higher than one of the 2 teams to defeat them in Invitationals this year. Brunswick, who beat WJ at Avon Lake and Nordonia, finished in 5th Place.

OSU sophmore and Walsh graduate Mason Eckelman is having a nice season so far behind the plate. Started 39 out 40 games with a .308 batting average. Tied for second on the team with 44 hits, also has 4 HRs and 23 RBIs.

The baseball team lost another tough one 1-0 to Toledo St John Jesuit at the Jesuit Cup.
Harper Lann pitched a strong game, giving up only 1 hit in 6+ innings.
A shame. Pitching finally shows some control and the hitters go silent. Bummer.

I hear there is a game at Canal Park tomorrow? Assume they will throw Sullivan?

Yup, they play Twinsburg tomorrow. I think Sullivan will be available. He’s pitching really well this year and has already hit 96 mph when Ohio PBR was watching him.

Nice. Hopefully a battle between Sullivan and the Twinsburg kid that is going to Indiana. They're probably the 2 top arms in NE Ohio. Maybe I'll head down. What time does it start?

I’m not sure of the starting time but the weekday games have usually started at 5pm. If I hear anything I’ll let you know.

Looks like the game is at 7PM. Owen Shinada (Indiana commit) pitched yesterday for the Tigers. They didn’t complete their game against Hudson, which was called in the bottom of the 9th.

Wow. I think that is Hudson's second extra innings game in the past two weeks. Looking at gamechanger and it shows Hudson as being up 10-4 in the top of the 9th? Major bullpen meltdown from Twinsburg. I assume based on that, Twinsburg won't throw a good pitcher against Walsh tonight. They'll save them for game 2 against Hudson as both will be vying for the Suburban League championship.

He was dealing yesterday against Twinsburg.
Complete game shutout with 15 K and only 3 hits and 2 walks.

Sounds like it. I checked it out on GC a few times.

Still worried about their hitting, other starters and bullpen.

Hitting has been a big issue, with the big exceptions being Matthew Mansbery (Michigan commit). He’s been outstanding, hitting around 0.500 and leading the team in RBI and Runs.

The bullpen has been bad. 3 starters do have an ERA less than 2. They are Sullivan (0.27), Lann, and Bonus. Hopefully the bullpen comes around. There’s plenty of talent there.

Hope you are right.

I got a question would yall ever play mentor one day could be a good game
The thread has moved into a baseball discussion due to the season we're in, even though it's a football thread. Justifiably, because the Yappi baseball thread is dead. That said - I know the Walsh coach would welcome playing Mentor for sure. They have played at the Freshman and JV levels before. Mentor picked up Erie McDowell once Erie dropped Walsh this year.

The problem is, a lot of public schools, no matter their size, are reluctant to play strong parochial programs. My guess (and this is only my opinion) is Mentor, like Hudson, Wadsworth, Highland, Nordonia, etc - fall into this philosophy. They prefer to stack up a schedule against public instead of private. They have their one rival in Iggy and don't want to add another.

That said, I believe WJ would have beaten Mentor last season. Mentor was really good. Walsh's team was better.

Walsh-Mentor probably could have gone either way in 2024. Drew Pasteur had Mentor at #14 and Walsh at #16 at the end of the season. Maxpreps flipped them with Walsh #14 and Mentor #16.

‘26 Caden Carter LB was offered by Navy. He currently holds 12 offers and is the last of the 5 players in the Class of 2026 (with current offers) to commit to playing D1 FBS football.

The Walsh Jesuit Boys Track and Field team continued their very strong season winning the 13 team Massillon Perry 9th/10th Grade Invitational with 93 points. Glen Oak was 2nd (75.5) and Woodridge was 3rd (72). All the big Stark County schools were here.

Some of the young football players did very well. Cambell Lann won the 100 and 200. Ethan Yim won the 400. Sean Scott finished 2nd in the 100, 3rd in the 300H, and 5th in the 200. John Vitatoe was 3rd in the 110H and LJ. These 4 also came in 2nd in the 4X100 Relay.

This win was more significant because Walsh only finished 4th, 8th, 6th, 10th, and 9th the last 5 times they competed here.

Boys Track continued their winning ways beating 15 other teams to win the Gilmour Cam Miele Invitational. They beat Riverside, NDCL, and Gilmour by 10 points.

They did this despite not having their 9th and 10th graders, who competed last night, and senior throwers Kodey Kish and Anthony Bernard.

Now for some softball news. The team is doing well and is 10-1 so far on the season. They were #2 in the last Coaches Poll on April 28.
The voting was completed hours ago for District seeding. Walsh was voted #1 out of the 29 teams in the D2 NE District. Green (#6), Painesville Riverside (#3), and Amherst Steele (#9) were voted #2-4 respectively.
These 29 teams will be divided into 7 Districts, 4 in Region 6 and 3 in Region 7. I suspect Walsh will pick one of the Region 6 Districts since the #1 team in the State, Anthony Wayne, will be in either Region 7 or Region 8.

As predicted the softball team is in Northeast District #5 ((Region 6). They play Firestone on 05/20. The other top teams in the Region are #6 North Ridgeville, #3 Riverside, and #5 Brecksville.

The most concerning thing about this season is the number of rainouts. For example, Walsh has played 9 games less than some other teams in the District.

Walsh plays Hoban today in baseball. Hoban won last year but iirc Walsh won the previous 4 meetings.

These schools have played in almost all the sports this spring . Walsh won in Boys and Girls Track, Boys Volleyball x2, Girls Lacrosse, and Softball. Hoban won a close 12-11 game in Boys Lacrosse. They haven’t played in Boys Tennis.
