Ursuline & Cardinal Mooney prospects for 2025

“Mooney still gets players from Struthers but” bllah blah blah…The actual comment I responded to was that Mooney indeed still gets STUDENTS from Struthers, Poland, and alll the towns mentioned. I actually love how they (Mooney) could be so down in football over the years but seriously still to this day live in your heads!!! It’s comical!!
...and after years of cordial exchanges across the river, we finally have ourselves a newbie disgruntled South Sider picking fights. Settle down, Gravy. This is a friendly space.

Thinking it doesn’t matter that taking starters from said schools and back up’s from said schools doesn’t matter then you’re just delusional. Nobody in their right mind is choosing Mooney as a first choice anymore that ship has sailed, Ursuline is the superior catholic school in the area and JFK is honestly probably second

Raiders hear this year after year. And yet somehow they surprize. If it was game #1, I'd tend to agree, but new guys will be vets by week 9. S.R. playing at home, Cards will have to bring it.
South Range beats Mooney. Unless the new coach and staff completely changes the culture immediately, Mooney will struggle mightily against this schedule. The South Range kids will want it more and by that point in the season the Cardinals might be ready to pack it in.

Nevertheless match ups against locals like Canfield & South Range will generate a lot of excitement. Mooney may be 3-6 or so but they are still Mooney and the longtime mystique that goes with the Mooney name. Hubbard was so thrilled to have finally bested a so-so CMHS team just a few years ago, as I recall. I'm hoping that Ursuline will continue some local rivalries (Austintown Fitch, WGH, Chaney) once they have the 3 Columbus teams on their slate (depending on the tenuous start of the new league). Would independents like Hoban, St. Edward & St. Ignatius be considered as members?

Hate to break it to ya, but Mooney doesn't run from anyone. Disclaimer, I'm not a Mooney guy, but be real.
So what happened? Additionally why bail on the conference that you agreed to join just months ago before a game is played? That’s not running? I’m not real educated on Mooney football and I know in the past they’ve been impressive but the present and the future sure appears to be a strategy of running from agreements…..that’s not up for debate. That’s a fact

First of all Mooney runs from nobody. Secondly, yes it’s a been rough go for Mooney as of late. Lastly, that league, no offense, might have been the dumbest idea that I’ve ever seen. Mooney and VASJ for that matter are not running, they are using their brains. Why start the league when it would’ve been lucky to last 2 years.

I do agree that they should’ve never accepted the invitation in the first place, but they didn’t back out because they’re are scared. Financially and geographically this just won’t work for a school like Mooney.

It looks as though the OCAX has officially folded before it even started. Coach DeSantis stated in the article that the Irish will still play Walsh and the three Columbus school if the open weeks line up. Throw in Mooney and St Vs and we will basically play the whole conference anyway, sans VASJ that is.

I think most of the teams end up playing each other, anyway. Makes a lot of sense from a football aspect. Like @Jaws31 said, Ursuline will have Mooney, Walsh, St V's, if they continue with the 3 Columbus schools as well as Austintown, and WGH. That's 8 tough games and the majority of the schedule complete.

Mooney alum Kyle McCarthy was the QB of the Cards' 2004 state championship team, played collegiately as a safety at Notre Dame (where he was also a team captain), then played a two years in the NFL for the Broncos while spending brief time with the Raiders and the Chiefs. Now he is a successful NFL player agent.

From a recent article in The Athletic identifying the "top 50 difference-makers in the NFL under the age of 40" :

"...The 38-year-old has already made quite an impression in the professional football world. He was recently named to The Athletic’s Top-50 NFL difference-makers under the age of 40. It’s a list that includes NFL head coaches and front office personnel from throughout the league..."

He was tough. I believe that he lead the nation in tackles one year while at Notre Dame.

His brother Dan was a monster in HS, but never seemed to be the same after he got hurt in the ‘07 playoffs. I met him before at a Harding-Mooney 🏀 game. Very nice guy.

Week 4 has Chardon vs. Erie McDowell. Is this still accurate?
Looks like it is. BTW McDowell might as well move to Ohio at this point. In addition to Chardon they are playing Fitch, Harding, Steubenville, Highland and Mentor.

The kids were told yesterday that they are still looking and there is a possibility it will be an out of state team.

Can’t argue that. One thing that Mooney can always claim is they’ll take on anyone. The truth of the matter is teams have been dodging Mooney for decades.
Long time rivals SVSM & Austintown Fitch are no longer on the Cardinal's schedule in recent years. Was this by design?
