UIL Finals may be moving

Since 2011, the UIL 11-Man Championships have been played at Cowboys/AT&T Stadium. Starting two years ago, all 10 games were played on the same weekend. Four games on Thursday, three on Friday, and three on Saturday.

Though unofficial, the plan was to play at AT&T Stadium again on the weekend of December 17-19. Then, the NFL released their schedule, and have a primetime NFL Network game for Dec. 19 Saturday night.

If it were scheduled on Sunday, there wouldn't be a conflict. The UIL has three options, all of which are a no-go. First, they could play on Sunday. But their rules forbid it. They could reschedule their season. Moving it up a weekend is impossible. And playing on Dec. 24-26 is realistically impossible. Or, they could play on Wed, Thur, and Fri. Though that is probably not going to happen.

So, the only two possibilities remain: NFL reschedules the Cowboys game for another day. Which would be difficult as the NFL needs something for that night for their network.

Or, the UIL relocates the games to another venue. For the games to be aired on Fox Sports Southwest, the games have a few stipulations: all games in one location, and a dome. The UIL wants the games on turf and in a dome. So, that's three venues: AT&T Stadium, Alamodome, and NRG Stadium in Houston.

Starting in 2016, the plan was to start bidding the games out to San Antonio and Houston on a rotational basis. However, the option to play at AT&T Stadium still applied and the UIL hadn't planned to move them just yet, if at all.

Since 2011, I've been going to Texas for the games and it would be a step-down to play them elsewhere. AT&T Stadium is a cathedral to football. Though, it will be interesting to see a bit of a change of pace. Though with the number of teams reaching the finals from the DFW area than SA or Houston, it will be interesting to see how the teams travel. Though when a Houston team does play, how well they may play or their fans attend.

But, a trip from a town like Canadian, is almost 600 miles away.

It's long overdue. A two year rotation would work just fine. Two years in Houston. Two years in SA. Two years in Arlington.
