Final Comments:
Returning letter winners: Madi Cox (SR), Kaydence Feasel (SR), Emma Ferguson (JR), Kaitlyn Gregg (JR), Kaley Nott (JR), Mia LeMay (SO), Ashlyn McCoy (SO), and Abbey Overfield (SO).
List of potential starters: Madi Cox, Emma Ferguson, Kaley Nott, Mia LeMay, Ashlyn McCoy, and Abbey Overfield.
Goals and expectations: Last year was a rebuilding year, and learning to play together in new roles. We hit our stride at the end of the season last year, and it seems that these girls have picked up where they left off. We were fortunate to have only lost one senior last year, and so all starters are back and the chemistry is looking good so far. We have some goals to be competitive in more games this year. The girls are looking to really fine tune their defense and let that spark their offense.
Standouts players: Abbey Overfield (SO). Abbey was OHC Honorable Mention last year and led the team in FT % and assists. She also led our team last year in DREB, Steals, and total REB. Emma Ferguson (JR). Emma was OHC Honorable Mention her Freshman year and really had a standout season that year. She did not play last year, but is back and we have high hopes for her junior year. Madi Cox (SR). Madi led the team last year in points, 3PG, and total shots taken. Mia LeMay (SO). Mia led the team in blocks last year and tied the Triad record in the #3 spot for blocks in a season.
Strengths: We have the ability to play fast. What we lack in height, we make up for in speed. We just need to fine tune our ball handling skills. The girls have really been buying into all concepts, and we are looking to be very aggressive on defense.
OHC: Fairbanks and Mechanicsburg will be at the top of the north side. On the south side, we expect to see Greenon at the top.
General comments: Coming off of last year, we were really starting to play well heading into tournament time. The girls seem to have picked up where they left off and are gelling well. We are proud that we have a full two teams this year. In the past it has been a struggle to field a JV team, so numbers seem to be on the rise. Defense has always been our main focus, and so the girls work hard and they let the offense stem from our defense and look for layups all the time. We are guard heavy, and that means that we bring some speed to the game. We are flexible and we can have any 5 out there and still be able to run things efficiently. We are excited to see how the season goes, and we are planning to be more competitive in the league this year.
