Top 25 Players in NW Ohio in the last 30 years

Gamby was in federal prison for years after numerous arrests for dealing, and he was using as well. Look it up. He was turned in by Nick Kazcur.

I don't think he is the only one with legal issues from that list... BUT that's not the title of the thread.
We have a thread headed towards 300 pages, might as well have a ten year old one.

Michael Dieter? Storm Norton? Both are still hanging around NFL rosters.
Brandon Fields and Mewhort had NFL time. Fields should definitely be on a top 25.

Coaches? Eberflus? Did he coach high school at all?
Recruiters? Dempsey? :D

So that should exclude him from the list then because he went down a path that hundreds of former great athletes/people went through?

You could probably name either Webb, Woodson, or Pace #1 and make a convincing argument for each. I'm bias. I saw Webb play and thought he was unreal. Basic offense, not so great coaching, and he could run you over or run around you. Was state champ in the 100. Was USA TODAY 1st team and held the Cotton Bowl rushing record until 2008 when Darren McFadden broke it.
Just based on his NFL career, Ben Roethlisberger is my #1.

Aaron Craft was pretty good.

Saw both once. It was like watching an adult play with children.

I was fortunate enough to see many on the list.

Saw em both. Ben was really good. I'll never forget him coming in during mop up time his junior year and everyone kind of looked at each other like WTF? This should be the the guy full time.

The list was based on top 25 players which I took as HS. You could certainly make a case for Ben being tops but my top three were simply electric with the ball in their hands. Could take over the game anytime the ball touched their hands. Regardless, one could make a case for many players, depending of course on their perspective.

I could not find a Chuck Webb highlight from HS but he was special. He broke the Cotton Bowl record for rushing yards here. He also holds the Tennessee single game rushing record with 294 (Ole Miss). Chuck was a USA Today All American and won the OHSAA 100 meter (10.5). He was a top 25 prospect (all positions) in the country. He blew out his knee and was never quite the same.

The run at 1:54 is most impressive.

Woodson was obviously amazing. USA Today AA and Ohio's Mr. Football in 1995. Heisman Trophy winner puts him at the top. The funny thing is Charles was not a burner on the track. Do not get me wrong, he was fast, but he was not a 10.5 guy like Webb. However, he was always the fastest guy on the field. He looked like a man playing with kids.

Webb was Impressive indeed.

Drushaun Humphries and Clarett is the same backfield. Think about that. That was such a sad story. (Well both actually). I recall Tressel awarding Drushaun’s mother with a National Championship Ring.

It would have been very interesting to have seen his career over time. He was 6'3/6'4" 235/240 and fast and it was almost as if he did not even truly realize it yet.

And Tressel did give his mom a ring. Class act.

Eric Page is my underdog nominee amongst all of these blue chip NFL guys. He did make it to the NFL but suffered a knee injury he never recovered from. Page played QB on some bad Springfield teams but he did it all. He was MAYBE 5'9" but was deceivingly strong as defenders would always slide off of him and he had that unique ability to see things faster than most. I'll never forget him running for multiple 50+ TDs in one game, where he made what seemed like all 11 defenders miss him, and he never looked like he was breathing hard. The greats never do. He kicked PATs/FGs and drove the bus. Was an excellent shortstop in baseball as well.

As an aside, I said it before and will say it again, coaches like Cliff Hite, Jim Mayzes, and Rick Rios changed the game in NWOhio. As most were running 3 yards and cloud of dust they opened things up and made football fun again for a bunch of athletes.

Whatever became of Rick Rios?

He is still around, even on this site. ;)

After Rogers he became HC at Warren Harding for a year before heading to Canton McKinley to be a coordinator. He then spent time as HC at Louden-ville and then Westland near Columbus. Unsure if he is still in the game or not?

Washed up over-rated old man! 🤣 currently helping a local Columbus program with coaching up a young QB, who is gonna be a good one down the road! Retiring from Ohio after this school year and heading to Leland, NC. Need some good weather year round! Maybe coach and teach (Math) down there! Not sure I wanna take another rebuild job though, it started to age me quicker!!

Snowbirder here, the thought of January and February make me shudder. Congrats on your soon to be retirement. Ohio's loss will be NC's gain.

On the small school side, just a few names that come to mind

Zac Dysert, Ada
Heath Jackson, Ada
Briggs Orsbon, Convoy Crestview
Aaron Craft, Liberty-Benton
Gavin Cupp, Leipsic
Michael Dennis, Carey
Jordan Leininger, Delphos St. John
Tyler O'Connor, LCC
Levi Gazarek, North Baltimore
Scott Albert, Hardin Northern

I think you have to have Micah Hyde from Fostoria in this conversation
He is on my list from 2014.
I was like, "nobody has said Warren yet?" and then saw the thread was from 2014, lol.

If Jase Bowen wasn't also realllly good on the diamond (currently playing in the Arizona Fall League) he would be a Saturday afternoon fixture.
I need to update my list. ;)
