I mean we all know why

But his story has been the best part of this awards season. He's gotta be the most-liked Oscar nominee/winner ever. I don't think I've ever read one bad comment

Of the movies I saw…

Elvis - 5/8
Banshees - 6/8
All Quiet - 6/8
Women Talking - 5/8
The Quiet Girl - 7/8

Elvis…ok. Reasonably good effort, I thought. The guy playing Elvis did a pretty good job. Not Oscar-worthy, imo, but ok.

Banshees was filmed on Achill Island, home to many of Cleveland’s Irish, and I’ve been there several times. Beautiful, well-acted, two famous actors…I thought the central conflict was a bit hard to accept…and the violence wasn‘t “believable”…but a powerful movie.

All Quiet…a really good movie, but it covered ZERO new ground in war is hell and sweet young men get slaughtered.

Women Talking…take your wife to see it. She’ll think you’re evolved.

The Quiet Girl…EXCELLENT small movie (think Tender Mercies/Robert Duvall-type small movie)…REALLY good movie, I thought. You‘ll probably have to see it when it gets to Hulu, Netflix…Irish language/subtitles.

Ke Huy Quan moved into movie production in the 90s/early 2000s. That and limited roles for Asians in movies probably made it difficult for him to find acting work.

Brendan Fraser winning best actor was definitely the highlight. One of the all time great turnarounds.

My grandmother was born on Achill. I went there in 1977 and visited the ruins of the cottage she was born in. I admit the tears were flowing.
