Castillo, Romano, Stephenson and Mahle all pitched well down the stretch. They need to get something from Bailey, Finnegan and Disco next season.

I think going into next season, you have to put big question marks on Finnigan and Disco. Finnigan could be a relief pitcher if he can't handle the starting grind. I certainly think the prospects of a starting rotation look much better going into '18 than it did for '17. Also have to feel Cody Reed and Amir Garrett will fit in there some where, even if it's the bullpen. This team needs to cut down on two things pitching that will help us greatly...walks and home runs.

Walls and Homeruns.... that eliminates Reed and Garrett then.

I have to agree. The "one swing" comment was nothing more than trolling.

Yes, the Frazier trade is looking good. It would look better if Peraza hadn't fallen on his face this past year. Schebler, though, has taken up the slack.

I think Schebler may be the odd man out. His BA and on base is pretty low, although he did hit some homers. I think the club would like to see Winker in the leaoff spot, and hit Billy in the bottom part of the order. If they could somehow get something of value for Duvall, I could see them moving him and putting Winker in left.
I think Peraza will be the shortstop next season, with a short leash.

How did I know this was coming...

And the Reds made a GREAT decision not keeping Todd Frazier. Who would have thought he'd ever hit #9 in the order?? Hit .213 this season.

It should be noted 14Red wanted to keep Todd Frazier because he was a bargain and a fan favorite.

I doubt they'll get much for Duvall. His bat really dropped off in the 2nd half of the season and he is arbitration eligible in 2019, I believe. But yes, they should jump at any offer of value for him.

Duvall hit 31 HR and 99 RBI. What more would you like to see from left field?

Someone who can hit in the 2nd half of the season. I thought that was pretty obvious with the "his bat really dropped off in the 2nd half of the season." Could you really not figure that out? In the 81 games from July 1st to October 1st he hit .210, 12 home runs and 42 RBIs. Compare that to his 1st half of the season: 76 games, .288 ba, 19 HR and 57 RBIs.

So you want someone who hits .288 with 38 HR and 114 RBI in left field. How many of those guys are out there?
The answer is zero.
For years Reds fans have belabored the lack of production in left field. Now you have a guy who hits 30 HR and drives in 100 and you want him traded. Are you reading what you type?

I’m fine with Duvall in left, I’m also fine with dealing him for value. People like 14red way overrate him and try to call him elite; he’s definitely not elite. I took Taco’s comments about Duvall’s consistency. This is two years in a row where he pretty much collapsed in the second half of the year. I see both sides, but looking at him as a whole, I’d look to keep him if they think they have any shot at competing in the next 2 years.

You certainly aren't reading what I type. And if you are, you certainly aren't comprehending it. Did I say I wanted him to produce the same numbers in the 2nd half? Or did I say I want someone who can hit in the 2nd half?

Yup.

The only area he "collapsed" was in average. His 2nd half numbers still extrapolate to 24 HR and 82 RBI. That isn't terrible for LF.

I would bet his diabetes has as much to do with his second half swoon as anything. That is something that Price and Duvall need to figure out how to manage going forward.

I agree with this. As an organization they need to decide if the pitching will be good enough to compete in the next 2 seasons. If they think it is, they will keep Duvall. If not, he'll be traded.

Never know until you ask. No matter what though, what a great deal Duvall has been though? Got him for MIke Leake, who was with the Giants for about 2 months. Duvall has been our everyday leftfielder, one of our main home run/ rbi threats and makes just above minimum salary for baseball.

Second only (just barely) to the trade that brought Joe Morgan to the Reds.

I'm not sure that is something that can be decided upon. Optimistically, you hope your young arms pan out, but you never know. I'm sure the plan going into '17 was that Reed and Garrett would have 18-25 starts under their belt and have a really good experience and be ready to be full time starters in '18. Instead, we have Castillo, Romano and possibly Mahle and Stephenson in those places. There will be some middle of the road type starters that will become available in the off season, like a Scott Feldman. Good part is we don't have to really go out and overpay for a free agent.
