That play was exactly why he should not be in the everyday lineup but rather be a pinch runner. He is dynamic on the base paths. Pinch run him and he gets on every game without giving up 3 extra outs a game.
 
Votto is certainly a strong candidate for NL MVP, but I think it should go to Stanton. :shrug: Likewise, Blackmon and Turner should be in the top-5 in votes as well and deserve consideration.

Of course you are. Because you're an online sweetie. Him playing is because he wants the stolen bases. Teams aren't worried about a broken thumb during the offseason.

His on base percentage is .452, 38 points higher than the next person. Statistically speaking, Joey's in running for the NL MVP, he has to be. Duvall has really dropped off the 2nd half, I'll give you that, but given his production over the last two years, he is an absolute bargain, only making $577,500.

How is Votto’s season historic? He’s definitely worthy of NL MVP consideration, but it was hardly historic.

I disagree, unless we have a better alternative. Also remember that he plays defense 8 or 9 innings per game, I feel that is the most important part of his job. The offense is icing on the cake.

Also look at this, as much as we pound Billy for his on base percentage and not being a good bunter...he's 23rd among all national league position players in runs scored with 84. When he gets on base, he scores more than most.

Didn't do anything of the such... he can't play centerfield if he's being held back as a pinch runner 2 games a week. He scores more times than many other regular players in the national league who get on base more than he does. My point is he's still effective, even if he's not on base alot.

So should we have Votto pinch hit because he's the teams best hitter, we only use him when we have a scoring opportunity?? Silliness...

Does Votto have a career OBP that is 0.300 or below? Is Joey Votto's OBP 0.020 lower than it was last year? No? Another dumb post by 14Red.
 
He should enter games as a pinch runner (when trailing) as a rally starter or late inning defensive substitution (when ahead) to help close out games.

I'm not saying Stanton won't win MVP, he has had a great year and is worthy. But you said "LOL" and "Votto is ok" when 14Red said Votto was worthy. I showed you stats as to why he is worthy, and an elite player. Joey finishes in the top 3-5 for MVP.

By the way, age is not a factor in the vote. #logic

I have no idea what you're talking about. You have an elite defensive centerfielder and you want to sit him on the bench to pinch run, which may happen a couple of times a week??? Nonsense...
 
I'd be in favor of Hamilton entering a game frequently in one of two ways: pinch runner in innings 6-9 when trailing or a late inning defensive replacement when ahead. To me, that maximizes his value to the team.

I'd pinch run him every game regardless if they are behind or ahead. He would get on base 162 times a season, steal 80-100 bases and score 100 runs. He can always stay in and play defense after the half inning is over.
 
Good to see Homer Bailey finish his 2017 with a strong outing. Biggest number for Bailey is 18 starts. He made 18 starts, I believe he may have been moved back or skipped once. But I'd say he's healthy and should be able to begin the 2018 season in the rotation.
 
You guys are way overthinking the Hamilton situation. He's one of the best defensive centerfielders in baseball, and he's at least adequate offensively. Yes not up to what you want, but he's in the middle of the pack offensively, plus he can do things that no one else can.
Many of you did the same thing with Chapman and the silly notion that he should have been a starter.
I would not be surprised if Billy is put in the #7 / #8 spot in the lineup for '18. I think they are grooming Winker as a leadoff batter.

Ok...so...he's also due to make $21 and $23 mill the next two seasons...you're not going to pay him that money not to pitch if he's healthy.
