What kind of contract do you offer a 30 year former elite up and comer who essentially lost 2 years of his prime and then came back and posted a pretty good first year? Assuming he stays healthy, that would be a great signing, but not sure the Reds will ever compete while he is on the team.

He will probably get between 8-12 M per year for 4 years. The Reds could probably do it if it is closer to the 8 than the 12.

If a team wants Bailey in a trade, I'll drive to Cincy and drive Homer to his new team. There isn't a GM alive who would take on Bailey and his contract. Of course the Reds could Brandon Phillips him, trade him and pay him all his money not to pitch for the Reds. That, however, is unlikely to happen.

It would cost the Reds some prospects to trade Bailey.
I would say there's a decent chance they trade Hamilton this off season and Gennett by the deadline next season.

Do you think there is much of a market for Billy? Where ever he goes, he's going to get a significant increase in pay.

No. It would be a salary dump trade. They could just not offer a contract to save the money but then they get nothing in return.

Yeah, that would be a waste of money, imo. They are probably 2 years away from trying to acquire a legit starter in the fa market.

I'll apologize to any and all on here...I did not think there was any way in the world Billy would be activated. Not sure it's a great idea, but he's on the active roster and is even reportedly taking BP today.

He wants the SB crown. The Reds want him to have it too. It increases his trade value hopefully.

It's okay, we just assume your 100% incorrect anyway. So this was no surprise to anyone.

Interesting you say that, I was talking to a friend today, not sure those "awards" are that important anymore. We all know when healthy, Billy's the best basestealer in the game. Not sure I'd use that as a reason to jeopardize rebreaking the thumb.

Easy for you to say. You aren't the one playing. As someone who is putting it on the line every day, maybe Billy wants more than just some online sweetie's recognition.

The Reds get what they deserve. Mediocre players at high salaries. Bailey is fragile. Hamilton can't hit himself out of a paper bag (still can't bunt!). DuVall is OK and Votto is ok but walks way too much. Mezeroko (spelling?) is weak. Barnhart is tough but thats it, Suarez k"s too much.Should I go on.

 Well, 14Red may have met his match

Nah, you nailed it!

The Reds signed Barnhart to a 4 year $16M deal with a team option for a 5th year. The deal was front loaded for next season to allow some flexibility in the future as other players become arbitration eligible or Free Agents.
I suspect we will see a few more arb eligible guys sign similar deals (front loaded) if the Reds don't intend to dip I to the FA waters for pitching. It would keep their contention window open a little longer.

Glad to see the Reds lock him up for the next few years. He has been excellent with all the newbies on the pitching staff, not to mention his outstanding defensive skills.
The contract is very team friendly, considering his overall performance.
Excellent job by the Reds' front office.

I'll say it again, I'm shocked he was back on the field, but what an exciting play yesterday, being in a pickle, and scoring on the same play! Him playing makes me think the Reds were wanting to show other teams he's sound in case trade talks come up during the off season.

The Reds are actually pretty inexpensive now. You mentioned Votto, Bailey and Mesoraco, they are the 3 highest paid now and it really drops off after that.
If Votto is ok, then I want a team of Vottos. I really don't understand Reds fans disdain for Joey. He's had a historic season and there is nothing wrong in my book with walking. His on base percentage is .452, 38 points higher than the next person. Statistically speaking, Joey's in running for the NL MVP, he has to be. Duvall has really dropped off the 2nd half, I'll give you that, but given his production over the last two years, he is an absolute bargain, only making $577,500.

Was today's game at GABP the last home gqme for Cozart ever at this stadium?

Last game in a Reds uniform as a player. He could hook on with another team and come back to GABP. Amazing last few years he's had. He was a light hitting shortstop 3 years ago.

:thumb:Great job by the Reds front office. Tucker is a home grown product we've watched grow up right before our eyes. The obvious plan a few years ago was that Mesoraco would be the catcher of the future, and that's not happening due to injury. What a good thing for the Reds that Tucker has blossomed into an everyday major league catcher. He's great defensively and with the staff. Good contract.

...Votto is ok but walks way too much...

Possibly the dumbest thing ever posted here. And that is saying something.

Votto is ELITE because he is so selective at the plate. Pitcher makes a mistake in the zone, he kills it. Miss the zone and he lets it go. You've got one choice with him, make great pitches on the edges of the plate.

Joey's in running for the MVP. LOL!! Ever heard of Giancarlo Stanton.

Is the award for most HRs? Then Stanton wins for sure. Check this out, in terms of NL stats:

- Stanton runaway 1st in HR with 57, Joey 6th with 35
- Votto 3rd in BA with .317, Stanton 25th at .280.
- Votto runaway leader in OBP at .452, Stanton 13th at .378
- Stanton 2nd in Runs scored (118), Votto 6th (101)

Possibly the most telling individual stat is OPS. I realize you don't understand it. It is a combination of on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Votto 1st in the league at 1.024. Stanton is 2nd at 1.013.

So before you LOL you should try to understand baseball. These are both great players and both are in the MVP discussion. Both are missing the playoffs. Thus neither will win, IMO. Bryce Harper was a lock until he got hurt. I would think Charlie Blackmon might win it.
