Could be, but, if the spread threatens to go unchecked, he will have no choice. The "penalty" needed to be established in order for some yahoos to take him seriously and accept some personal responsibility.

But, there is a choice. It seems to involve tolerating a higher number of deaths. I feel many see that as an option.
 
We know it’s not getting better by August 1st, can someone, for coaches and players, just give us a realistic date that they are shooting for so that schools can compete against one another?

“Wear a mask if you want to play this fall!”. Well, that’s like two weeks away, who what’s going on?

1) We did great early on because we acted swiftly and decisively. Thanks Dr Acton
2) We STILL have to take this seriously
a) Our current numbers are similar to Florida's and a few other hot spot states not long ago.
b) Our numbers are rising. If we're not acting seriously, we could become the next Florida
3) If we don't get our act together, we're gonna have to shut this thing down again.

Then all of you "I have a right to not wear a mask" folks can enjoy getting us all locked up in our houses again.
 
Whether this is a government scam or not, we may never know. this isn’t the time for conspiracy theories. if it doesn’t get better, we will get locked down again. no matter if you agree with it or not. ignorance isn’t helping anyone. just wear your dang masks, it’s not that hard. if cases drop significantly by the end of August, we have a season and get our kids back in school. that’s all we can control, really.

If all it takes to get back to “normal” is wearing a mask, then he should say that. However, it doesn’t seem like that alone is enough. It also doesn’t help that for 2 weeks in June Corona wasn’t even discussed. And now bc the racial tensions died down a bit, it’s back to be a pressing issue. How can we be expected to take this seriously when your message changes based on the political climate?
 
DeWine made one essential strategic miscalculation: He assumes all Ohioans are rational, reasonable and considerate of others. So he is treating us all like adults. Give the information, explain what the right things to do are, and expect everyone to do them.

On this thread alone it is clear this won't work. Too many proud 'Mericans want to do whatever they want, and express their right to not wear a mask, no matter what the science shows. It isn't a huge inconvenience to wear a mask in public. Grow up and do it.

Some on here have it right - he wants to say "I told you but you did not listen" before the harsher restrictions are set forth. And the 'Mericans will have only themselves to blame, but they will undoubtedly blame others and protest at the governor's home instead. Same nitwits that harrassed Dr Acton...

Maybe if scientists hadn't told us in March that 100,000 Ohioans already had the virus, and that even with the most stringent mitigation 1.1 million Americans would die, and that we don't need to wear masks because they aren't helpful, Mericans would be more willing to believe the scientists now.

Americans don't like being told what to do. Especially by smug elitists who have a record of being repeatedly wrong.

Again, why were masks not that important when the protests & riots first started? Why are they only important now that Corona is back to being the top news story? If masks are this important to mitigating the spread, we should’ve been wearing them since April.

Not just that, we don’t like being told to do something while another group of people can break those rules (and many other) with impunity. These measures feel like they’re more a product of media hype than science and legislation. We have reason to be suspicious. You can’t stay silent during the riots & protests, then try to preach SD & masks when they die down. If they’re important today, they were important in late May/Early June and you should’ve spoken up then.

you’re absolutely correct. and the fact that the media is saying that BLM protests aren’t causing spikes in covid-19 is absurd.

If they’re telling the truth, why can’t we have sports and concerts? I’m sure people would have no issue wearing a mask to either if required. It’s either that or the protests did contribute majorly to the spread and not the avg person who didn’t wear a mask until it was required.
 
What is up with these idiots. I get not wanting to get the virus and pass it on, but unless you’re over 70, you’re not at risk. I see middle aged people hysterically replying to Dewine on Twitter. “I’d rather be broke, than dead” is a common trope. It’s like these dumbfcks have no idea the survival rate is over 99%. You’re willing to quit your job to avoid possibly catching a virus you won’t even know you have? Who would hire these idiots in the first place? These hysterics need to stop.
