According to police and court records, Kendall is alleged to have assaulted a Hoban student at the school on the evening of March 24, 2024 — a Sunday. Kendall and Hoban theater students were weeks away from their spring performances of “The Little Mermaid.”

The former student reported the incident to the Akron Police Department on Feb. 7, 2025, when she was no longer attending Hoban. According to the incident report, “She called to report that the suspect assaulted her last March on a stage in a gymnasium at Hoban High School. No report was made at that time. Suspect is a teacher at Hoban.”

I’m interested in learning about the events that led to the assault and what he did that constituted assault charges. I’m at a blank on what would lead an assumedly intelligent and rational teacher to assault a student on school grounds, but there’s no use in speculating.

Even if it was initiated by something most of us would think an assault was a reasonable response, it's the job. We've had a couple local. Admins lost their cool dealing with a difficult child. Got hit or kicked themselves and instead of proper response,/restraint went the "let's see how you like it" instructional approach. Teacher can protect themselves but they cannot retatialte. There's a not so fine line. We can empathize with teachers but we cannot allow them to violate certain codes. By far most of these involve SE students at some level. It's a special skill they have, those teachers.
