Michael Winkler was hired as Hoban's Director of Strength and Conditioning in 2014. He spent eight years as a strength and conditioning coach in Major League Baseball, working for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2012-13), the Los Angeles Dodgers (2009-11) and the Cleveland Indians (2006-08). He began his career as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Akron. A graduate of Barberton High School, Winkler received a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from Walsh University in 2004. At Walsh, he played offensive guard in football and a catcher in baseball. In 2005, Winkler received a Master of Science degree in Sports Science and Coaching from the University of Akron. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), as well as a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He was named Ohio State Director for the National High School Strength Coaches Association (NHSSCA) in January of 2017, and NHSSCA Regional Strength Coach of the Year in 2019. Michael, his wife Nicole and daughter Lucy live in Wadsworth.
