Summit County Basketball 2023-24

I think it's safe to say that Hoban and SVSM will come into the year as the consensus top 2 teams in the County. I do think my Green Bulldogs will be among the top 5. Brady Rollyson is going into his fourth year on varsity, and Jarrett Taylor his third. Junior Antonio Martin is expected to take over at point guard, which should free up Taylor to move back to forward. Big man Luke Jansen is another returning starter. Senior Lucas Bitong should get some minutes in the backcourt. Once again, Green will be a physical team that is strong defensively and on the glass. The big story this offseason, of course, is 4-star recruit Niko Bundalo's decision to transfer to Western Reserve Academy. Losing him hurts, there's no way around it. However, this is still a team that should finish in the top half of the Federal League and be dangerous once the tournament rolls around.

Green lost a kid to Western Reserve?

I understand it's an amazing school academically but otherwise what is the attraction to go there?

They aren't known for athletics.

They have been getting some D1 kids there. Last year they had a Wyoming recruit and this year they have a senior that is a Marquette commit.

Actually they have 2 Marquette recruits this season. Becoming more of a basketball powerhouse, especially with the addition of Nilola

I remember when they got the Livingston kid from Buchtel a few years ago which surprised me.

What Division are they for basketball?

No attraction, they play for nothing? Kid didn't get along with coach that's been there for 25 years. He'll get to go there and do what he wants on defense and offense.

No Buchtel?
Buchtel lost a TON from last year's squad. Beyond the points, the leadership Thurman, Boyce, et al. provided will be difficult to replace. The Griffs, like STVM, will be young and talented; though I'm not sure they will have the height that the young Irish do. Both those squads will go through some growing pains, but both should be very solid by the end of the year. Like I say about STVM this year, I'd rather play the Griffs early than late!

1A STVM The Irish are young but lengthy
1B Hoban returns Josh and a Glen Oak transfer
Green
Stow
Hoban's Jonas Nichols will be the best player in Summit County this year and should get strong consideration as a POY candidate. I heard somewhere that he has committed to Kent State; which, if true, is another great commit for the Flashes!

Stow will return one of the best wing players in the area but they lost a ton. Will take them a while to see who they really are.
Stow has 3 really talented, proven players returning, but looks like they will have no inside force this season. Raymond Smith is their tallest player at 6'6", but he is a wing all the way. The 3 guys are Marconi (Jr) at PG, Fleishour (Sr) at SG and Raymond-Smith at the wing. A very good backcourt. The frontcourt is ????? 6'2" Harrington is likely the starter at PF. Pestello will be greatly missed.

Heh, maybe, right there but too early to make that statement.

Want another "way-too-early" prediction!?! While Jonas Nichols will be the best player in Summit County this year, Aiden Monroe of STVM will be the best player for the following three years!

Who are the Akron City Series favorites?
Buchtel lost a ton but should still have some players; East lost a good coach and probably their best players; Ellet has very good Fr and Soph classes but little experience...I have no idea about the others...maybe Firestone makes a run????

Well you know there's a junior at WRA with power five offers already and not talking Kent State or Akron, so theres that at least for now for this year and next? Not saying Nichols isn't extremely gifted and solid but I'd take the other over him.

He has already signed with Marquette.

Edit: They have the top senior in the state for 2024 (according to many) that has signed with Marquette, and a top junior (class of 25) that is going power 5. Who is going to beat WRA this season!?!? yikes!

Buchtel graduated a lot, but they seem to have marked their territory early in the city.
