St. Thomas cancelling games now

The Central posters are just making up things now. It’s getting a little silly and frankly idiotic at this point. Don’t they have a playoff game this week.
I was at the game. What is described here is totally accurate. STA was on full tilt. I have never seen so many fouls called on 1 team for unsportsmanlike conduct. The QB got kicked out of the game. It was so bad. I thought CC did a great job and kudos to the coaching staff telling the players to not engage and get wrapped up in the nonsense. I also saw 1 dad get asked to leave for yelling at the ref. That stuff happens all the time at HS football games but not an excuse. If you're defending how STA conducted themselves in that game and I blame the coaches as they even got fouls then you have black/gold glasses on.

I guess you didn't read my other post, I am not OK with the unsportsmanlikes and the way the first quarter went. Second, what happened with the two Central dads or whatever being escorted from the game was not because they yelled at the refs. They were shouting unacceptable things directed at Aquinas players (high school kids). Adults should know better, this was not a Browns game. You can pretend it was nothing, but that is the first time I ever saw parents kicked out of game in all my years of going to high school football games. It does not happen all the time, I have never seen it happen before. You are either lying or you don't know what they were yelling or why they were removed. The matter with the player was handled appropriately. That player is 150lbs soaking wet, I don't think he was going to do any damage to anyone, but he was booted and given the riot act. Time to move on discussing a 15-16 year old kid and a mistake that he and the coach are remorseful for.

Nothing like this happened at any of the other 6 games STA played this season, so it is not a pattern. I was at a game in the past when 3 STA kids got knocked out of the game with concussions, a player on the other team was truly headhunting as he did it again to another teams QB later in the season and it was captured clearly on video. One of the STA kids had absolutely no idea where he was and had to go to the hospital. That was another Catholic school who I won't name because it was not reflective of that school.

I am breaking my promise.

Voorhees,

I have kids in the Stark Catholic School system and my wife and I pay about $20,000 a year for Catholic education, nope we don't qualify for EdChoice. Unlike most Catholic parents, my wife and I and our kids never, ever, miss weekly Mass. We know what is important and high school football is not high on the list overall. However, this thread is getting beyond ridiculous and should have been shut down a while ago.

Needless to say I was not going to post this, but oh well, since we are all being forgiving Catholics. I was at an event and another parent that I knew told me that we needed to get the quote, "ghetto trash" out of our Catholic schools. This was one of those 11 St. Paul parents that sent their kids to Central as freshmen last year that you previously mentioned. My jaw hit the floor and I politely ended the conversation and went back to my table with friends who I know are true Catholics and would never say such a despicable thing. So let's all get off our holier than thou crap. If Central doesn't want what some think are "ghetto trash" at St. Joan of Arc and St. Michael, they should know they are more than welcome to apply to STA for high school.

For STA I’m curious to if they have a team next season if they will revamp their schedule for some more competitive games, it might do justice to the team going forward

They are locked into league games with JFK, Rootstown, Mogadore and Southeast. They need to schedule the Mathews, St Johns and Fairports of the world but I would guess that most of the schedule is done. They also play CCC every year too. I honestly don't feel bad for them though. They brought all of this on themselves. The way the administration has handled football is absolutely terrible. Reap what you sow.

Our schedule looks complete except for week one. (Should be Aquinas at Struthers) Nothing showing now on Arbiter.
So maybe they are looking to downgrade the schedule after all. It's in their best interest to do so. I'd like to see a more competitive game for week one for the Cats. Until they fix that situation there at Aquinas, they bring absolutely nothing to the table.

It got changed when Geneva got added, so
Maybe we were able to get out of the game or they backed out I would
Imagine it was mutual since our freshmen team beat their varsity in the second half as well

This is unfortunately true across the board of all the schools, and one of the reasons my child no longer attends a Stark County Catholic School. While it is wishful to think that this only happens at the west side schools, it is permeated throughout the whole system and sadly is embraced by some of the priests within the diocese as well. While this doesn't excuse the actions of those idiots at the game, or in your experience, it is not fair to assign this racist and disgusting behavior to one school over the other.

I am sorry that someone who represents my alma mater would act in a way such as this, but I am not surprised. Unfortunately, this holier than thou mentality has been a staple in both schools for as long as I can remember. I am not sure how to remedy this, but I can certainly attest that the church does itself no favors in combating this problem, and until that happens it won't matter what the schools do. I realize this is not how every church operates, but it is more prevalent than it is not, which is concerning as someone who was a lifelong supporter of the Catholic schools.

Isn't Catholicism historically about working with the poor? In nearly every city aren't Catholic organizations still on the "front lines" of poverty?

Uh, I was within feet of one of the dads that got asked to leave. Cop literally told him we can't have you yelling at the refs like that you're going to have to leave. So I don't know about this 2nd dad because I didn't see that but you're not accurate on at least one.

It's a ridiculous statement TBH because CCC has a decent % of lower income students using the Ed Choice program. If CCC didn't want to help out lower income students they wouldn't do Ed Choice. It's a mixed race school too and my kids have gone and go there. I don't hear any racist comments. Someone has an agenda and is playing the race card. STA fans trying to deflect from what happened with the complete meltdown disaster on the field.

Eh.. I don't know about that. We pulled our kids from St Paul's b/c it is truly a toxic school. We now drive them 30 minutes into Massillon at St Mary and don't have near the issues with the students and families that we did at St Paul. St Mary also has the type of students St Paul parents abhor. Just mention ed choice at St Paul and listen to the reactions. That place is a breeding ground of toxicity that I literally don't see at any of the western stark county catholic schools.

"Until they fix that situation there at Aquinas, they bring absolutely nothing to the table." And what does Struthers bring to the table? A definite "fix that situation" at Struthers. You can barely "HANG" with your conference. Plus, what is the A.D. doing scheduling a D-7 school? Let's get back to STA. Scheduling down will definitely help.
