St. Ignatius basketball 2023-2024

Quinn Woidke continues to prove how big of a game changer he is. The kid just makes winning plays and it’s very impressive.

Cats fans. Is this the year? I know Garfield Heights and Moeller and a few others stand in the way but how do you like your chances?

Certainly in the mix, but they're no juggernaut by any means.
I don’t know…They have some serious talent. Might be starting to collect some sand bags, lol. Good luck this year and stay healthy! I remember when Ed’s lost Delvon Roe (Michigan St recruit) and Alex Lavisky to season ending injuries and they were a shoe in to win the title circa 2008 or 2009. They also had Tom Prichard who went to Indiana.

In the last minute, Ignatius allowed two uncontested layups to avoid fouls and Ed's hit a long three-pointer at the buzzer.

And Ed’s missed several “gimme’s” around the rim in the first half which would have created an even larger first half lead. Let’s not act like Ignatius allowed this game to be close. It was, in fact, a tightly contested game from start to finish. End of the day, the more talented team won.

Ed’s was able to execute in the half court pretty effectively in the first half and, despite several misses around the rim, hit half of their three balls to get the edge. The Cats made it a full court game in the second half and imposed their will, attacking the rim and finally knocking down some outside shots.

If the two are to meet in the tournament at any point, it will take a perfect game from the Eagles to prevail. Ignatius is longer, quicker and more talented.

Eds had a great game plan with face guarding Woidke. That place is so difficult to win at, so you take it if you're Ignatius even though it was ugly.

Happy for a win. With coach Flannery and the Eagles Nest environment, that is an extremely difficult place and game to win.
Agree that Flannery had a great game plan, both offensively and defensively and his team executed, especially in the 1st half.
That is why he is one of the best HS coaches ever in NE Ohio, along with coach K in Mentor and some of the old-timers like Chavers, Chernauskas, Cappelletti.

The faster tempo in the 2nd half played to the Wildcats' strength. The change occurred with about 4 min left in Q3, the Cats got out of that full court trap/press that gives up easy baskets + causes them to get into foul trouble and went to a man-to-man, 3/4 court pressure. What followed was a 14-2 run that flipped the game's direction and score. There's lessons learned from this game and it was a big win for the program.

Cats beat Avon 76-52 and have Benedictine, Walsh, and Brush left on the regular season schedule.

Final -88 to 35

The Wildcats (17-3) hit 16 shots beyond the 3-point arc, setting a single-game school record with their road win. It marked their sixth straight victory.

Wildcats pick the Twinsburg District (Northeast 1) with their first overall selection. Ensures they stay in Kent for the two regional games, and they also avoid Hoban and Garfield until a presumptuous state championship game. Also they take the first round bye, a thing Joyce doesn't usually do, but at least we won't have to watch a 70 point beatdown against a CMSD school this year.
The Wildcats might not face a serious challenge until the regional championship game. It looks like anyone who could avoid them did so for as long as possible.

RIP Carroll Gym. The wrecking ball took it down earlier this week. The garage and smokestack are next.

Looking forward to the game tonight between Cuyahoga Falls and St Ignatius. It will be my first time in the St Ignatius gym.

Why isn't the Kent regional a double header like the other regionals? That's pretty annoying. I'd make the drive to see both games but I'm not driving 45 minutes for a one hour game.
