2018 added two titles to the total. A great job by all involved in the wrestling program. Now it's time to turn to the 2019-20 team. Here is my early prediction for next year. I believe the line up is pretty much set.

The 8th grade class is very thin in the greater Cleveland area. All area schools will not be getting that influx of studs. I suspect in the next 30 days we will see several transfers across the state.

Richter
Seefeldt
Delsanter/Poole
Poole/Delsanter
Richter
Bennent
Hepner/Geog
Geog/Hepner
Paddy
Hightower/Garcar
Garcar/Hightower
Lisco/Robinson
Robinson/Lisco
Klibane

2019/2020

Without a quality transfer or an unknown 8th grader or perhaps a current eds wrestler who can develop during the offseason i see next year being a down year. 4 state finalist are graduating seniors. They have bennett and geog but that is not enough.

Why the next 30 days? Is there another new transfer rule change? Last year transfers had until May 15th but that was a permanent change not a year by year type of thing

Down year? Dude, I count 6 returning placers including 2 champs. Plus add in Geog AndBennett and you have 8. Then Kilbane, Garcar and Poole as returning qualifiers. Lisco returning starter. You lose Andonian, Dover, Rini, Anne OMalley. I don't see who is going to beat them based on the returning wrestlers. The biggest problem will be getting everyone on the lineup.

8 quality starters won't be enough. Lasalle and Elyria has too many weapons. Eds has nobody at 220, 126. 120, 195, 285, 170 are all too weak to repeat as state champs.

Well all good things must come to an end and unfortunately, the incredible streak has done just that. :dang::help:

Here is the Flow article back from 2017 which provides a list of wrestlers each year that were able to achieve AA status.

https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/5062427-st-eds-incredible-ncaa-tournament-all-american-streak

I imagine a lot of past and future wrestlers aren't too happy right about now. :grouphug:

I don't recall hearing Jared Campbell or Alan Hart mentioned this year? Were they held out due to an injury? transfer to another school etc...

Alan didn't make the team wrestled very well in open events. Jared is at ND college. I believe he was hurt.

If you may recall the 2014 St. Eds team had their lowest finish in quite some time finishing 7th at the State Tournament (would've been 8th but I believe a Moeller wrestler lost all his points for getting kicked out of the tournament).

In 2015 they won the title but by a pretty close margin to Elyria.

Those 2 senior classes would be your True senior class this year and RSR classes in the NCAA. That's probably why no AAs this year.

I'm sure they will start another streak at some point but it may be very hard to replicate the sustained success at the collegiate level they had for so long.

Was an amazing streak!

Does this include the local middle school programs? I am sure that there are private donors that could help a public school kid or two hit the mats on Detroit avenue.

And another thing. Are you actually complaining about a lack of studs? Come on now, coach em up. its all about the E. the edge!

Good start to the off season for the following Eagles.

Four of our wrestlers earned All-American honors :
Freshmen Evan Bennett - 6th place @ 138 lb
Freshman Tyler Lillard - 3rd place @ 152 lb
Sophomore Hudson Hightower - Runner-up @ 170 lb
Junior - Bryce Hepner - 5th place @ 145 lb

I think Bennett and Lilliard have improved greatly. Both should start someplace in next years line up. Hudson looked very sharp wrestling 70.

Paddy 170. It's going to be a dog fight in the middle weights. With Richter, Hepner and Geog heading that group there will be Bennett, Lillard and Garcar in the hunt.

I don't see Garcar or Lillard cracking the lineup. I expect something like :
126 DelSanter
132 Poole
138 Richter
145-Bennett
152- Hepner
160- Geog
170 - Paddy
182- Hightower

It's possible all could be one weight lower as I am told Richter and Bennett did not cut this year. If Hepner went 145 last weekend, he should be able to slide in no higher than 152. I think PaddtY is a college 165 but he is more than string enough to bump up to help the team? Hightower had a lot of fluff on him at 182 and is probably better suited at 170 but can obviously handle 182 especially after a summer of lifting.

Garcar was a light 170. Poole and Delsanter up 2 wt classes?
106 Ricter
113 Seefeld
120 Delsanter
126 Pool
132 Bennett
138 Ricter
145 Hepner
152 Geog
160 Garcar
170 Paddy
182 Hightower
195 Robinson

Bennett has to come down to make the team imo

Hepner at 160? Did he have that hard of a cut? Thought he certified at 132. Think Geog can make 145 again? He's a big frame and looks to still be growing.

who said Hepner at 160? He did have a very big cut last year as did Poole. Most others did not cut much at all. DelSanter was very tall and skinny at 113 can't imagine him not up to at least 126. Geog looks like he will be much bigger moving forward based on his father.

Anyone with the screen name huge shouldn't be obliquely referring to a 17 yr old kid that is coming off a knee injury as fat. Your ego has to have a little "fluff" in order to label yourself "huge". That "fat" kid would probably tie you in a knot.

Really didn’t see the word fat did I miss something
Also I think paddy at 70 makes for a stronger eds duel team. He can pretty much go where he wants and win a state title
