Slow Milesplit Result

Did any of the other regionals have slow results because of the Milesplit integration with the timing company?
It took forever to get final results for the Troy races.

I enjoy the slow results.
It does more harm than good when the timing system misses a runner and they have to reinsert runners after results are immediate.

The last 10 years:
I have seen teams celebrate early. I have seen teams cry to only realize they made the next round.
Last week at the MS state meet, runners were pulled off the podium and others were inserted. How horrible is that?

I enjoyed the old system. The system when they would tally the results. Double-check the results and the team would gather around waiting for the team's results. These were special moments for teams as they huddled in a circle. Special bonding moments that we have not seen in the last 10 years or so.

I would love it if OHSAA had a system in place similar to NXR. Post the individuals via live results but hold off on team scores. Wait until every individual is verified via camera. And then announce team results before posting them online. This would only be better for the sport.

There is no counterargument.

Good comment. My kids were out of the sport before the instant results. I used to have fun grabbing the finishes by hand on my clipboard and guessing the team results while we waited for the announcement at the Troy regional. The tension was epic! When our boys won their first regional I told the coach before the tally came in. He was afraid to believe it till he heard the announcer count up the team places. I’ll never forget it. 😁

I've said it many times, people would rather have it fast than correct. They need to be correct first.

At Boardman, the individual results were available instantly. but team results were delayed. Not difficult to figure things out for ourselves. We were worried about the girls before the race. i knew we were fine and second even without results, but nearly everyone else was just clueless. I guess you coukd be nervous about DQ's

We were told we had to use the milesplit live results and it works fine if you are using meetpro as your scoring software but we do not. The reason we went back to our results from milesplit live was because of xc results. It has not been updated since last years xc. The slowness was due to us having to wait for it to crash and then have to restart it about 2-3 times per race, if you used meetpro software it was fine as it is built for that. (We ran ours in the background and it was as usual and immediate. It also showed the qualifiers. The printed results showed the qualifiers for announcing and we had links to all of them on a single page on our live results but no live results until after the meets were completely done.

What can we hope for with results at the State Meet? Has milesplit looked into any other options that are cleaner, and work more smoothly?

I get the appeal of instant results and the desire for the older system's anticipation. I have been both the coach of the team that thought they were in only to not make it to the next level, and the coach whose team was initially listed as 4th place and then announced as the winner. But I think I can make a counterargument in favor of the live results over the old system. More eyes more quickly finding errors. It is not the case they we didn't have errors before the era of live results, it is just that they took longer to find and correct. I have been to meets where they don't do the team scores until after everything has been verified, and had errors in the team scoring. Because verification helps but is not a guarantee of getting it right.

they post on the scoreboard and use the system that works for their software. So it should go quickly.
