SBAAC Football 2025

I don't disagree it makes sense for EC, but what does EC bring to the table for the OHC? I don't see any benefit for the OHC adding EC.
Well, I’m sure Greeneview, Southeastern, Central Catholic, Cedarville and Madison Plains would love EC being added. Greeneview because of distance, and the other 4 because of competitive reasons, East Clinton isn’t great at football and basketball, but the OHC south really isn’t anything special either.. East Clinton would add good competition for everyone besides maybe Greeneview. SBAAC National vs OHC South, it doesn’t matter, competitively speaking they are similar, but EC size wise is going to fit better overall in the OHC south, CNE is close to D4 size already, and Williamsburg will be there before we know it.. East Clinton will be a D6 with losing enrollment.. They won’t exactly take the league to exciting new heights, but it would be a move to make current members happy, which can add more to a league then people give credit for. I’m not saying EC is the best addition for the OHC, I can agree a north school is, but EC should definitely be an option.

If you go to the OHC thread, no one has mentioned EC. I just think EC is a tough sell when they didn't have a varsity girls basketball team this year and there is talk of no football. I really wish nothing but the best for EC but they are really bad off right now. I don't know if any conference wants a school that can't field varsity teams.

Just because a thread isn’t mentioning a school, doesn’t mean they aren’t a potential candidate. The OHC thread also has a lot of guys who support the North schools, so they don’t probably care to add someone as south as EC either, which is understandable. The no girls basketball thing is really a head scratcher.. I don’t think that’ll be a long term issue, and no football is just a rumor. If EC really does suspend football, then no way the OHC will ever consider them. I do agree that EC will be a tougher sell for the OHC, and they aren’t the best option, but they are a potential option.

We are going to disagree on this, and that’s okay. You have good ideas and interesting takes on things, and I love to read your posts, but I just don’t agree with you on this, and that’s totally fine. I think we all want to see EC succeed, but no matter what, that’s a huge project.

Agreed, I really don't know what is best for EC right now. The struggles seem to be across the board so I don't know how they fix it.

Goshen's Best 8th grader heard is going to Moeller.

Kid would have better numbers than Strunk if he was there.

Basically ran buck shot on the SBAAC MS teams the past few years and is also a top level track kid too.

That’s very unfortunate. Goshen can produce some great talent, but they can never get it all together at once.

I think it's happening all over the SBC. If a school has a real good athlete at the lower level, parents become delusional and think they're kid is much better then he or she actually is. I've always called it the Clinton county bubble. CM is going through this situation currently. Parents have been dumb enough to send their child to programs were there kids have lost their entire HS experience and never achieve much.

I think it happens all over... I just know i don't see many moeller grads bagging groceries at Walmart or gathering carts in Krogers parking lot

I remember when EC was a once very respected program. It's beginning to look like more and more of these rural school systems are declining at a rapid pace. Hoping the SBC can win more than one tournament game in basketball this year.
It's possible. Just need two first round games where 2 SBAAC teams meet. That's probably the only way though.

You’re not wrong. The SBAAC needs Georgetown and Wilmington to step it up in basketball..

Best shot at someone making a run is Williamsburg girls basketball team tbh. They have an excellent program.

I don’t think Burg girls will make much of a run. The National is really bad in girls basketball, worse than the boys.
Considering only 5 of 7 schools even have a varsity team, that can't be too surprising. Girls basketball does not seem too popular around here these days.
With the expansion to 7 divisions, I have no idea what to expect in the smaller division tournaments. Fayetteville and Williamsburg are probably the only 2 decent D6 teams around and should meet in round 2. It's a strange region with a Central and a NW district each feeding in, so I have no idea how far the winner could go.

Still the best team in Clinton County this year by miles. Amazing how bad Blan, EC and Massie are all in the same year.
It’s crazy because 6-7 years ago the Clinton County schools had good programs or rising programs.

Wilmington had some decent talent and Noszka did everything he could to keep them competitive and a reputable program, but once he left that came crashing down and they are middle of the road these days.

Clinton Massie won their first boys league title in what felt like forever, but they couldn’t keep it up and they are perineal cellar dwellers in the SBAAC now.

East Clinton had good talent and a great young coach that just never went anywhere..

Blanchester had Sipple who was awesome, but they got knocked out early of the tournament every year with him.

It’s just unfortunate because Clinton County seemed like it was going to be a great basketball community going forward but it just has been really bad.. there’s a good argument that EC and Blan are in the top 10 worst SW Ohio teams this season.

Spot on!!!!

Well we didn't get any SBAAC vs. SBAAC matchups in the tourney this year, so 0-13 is a real possibility. Felicity and Burg look to have the best shot of preventing the sweep.

I didn’t either. I thought Maderia was going to beat CNE rather easily. I was also surprised to see Goshen hang with Turpin until the end as well.
Bethel Tate with a 2 point upset of Gamble puts the league at 4-9 after round one. All four wins were by National Division schools. It looks like the expansion to 7 divisions is helping the smaller schools a bit. All 4 match up with MVC opponents in the next round. Bethel Tate looks to be up against it with CHCA, but I think the other 3 games should be competitive with Burg having the best shot at advancing

The expansion is helping the national schools a lot it would seem. The American schools didn’t show up, but some of them got some brutal first round matchups. It’s definitely inflated a little with the 7 divisions but getting 4 first round wins is incredible for a league who’s lucky to get 1-2.

I was talking with the CM athletic director the other night at a baseball game and I got the sense there could be some shake up within the coaching staff. Also at the baseball game I was told a few of the top returners from last years squad are not playing this year. The April board meeting could be interesting…..#golow

Thanks for this update! Are these kids transferring out of CM to another district? Also I hope by shakeup, they aren’t trying to force Dan McSurely out… I know that was something sort of being discussed when they cut his teaching position or something along those lines. I know the district wants to save money, but they need to do everything to not make cuts to the football program. CM is built on football. But I remember someone saying there could be a mass exodus from CM… this might be the start of it.

I don't think the OHC is any easier than the SBAAC as far as competition goes, it's hard to find a league worse than the SBAAC in all sports. If the OHC is going to take a new team it will most likely be a northern school.
A little follow up on this, East Clinton has applied to the OHC. While I think the OHC south teams will vote yes to adding them, I don't foresee the OHC North wanting to vote them in. I doubt East Clinton gets in, but I will be interested to follow this.

I think in the back of everyone's mind you could figure that this run CM has had over the past 20 years would eventually level back out. Never in a million years did I think players and parents would turn on the coaching staff that built this program from the ground up. What a shame.

With the TRC in shambles, I wonder how many schools applied to the OHC. OHC could have a lot of options!
