Roden steps down at Oak Hills

That’s a tough look for OH. He beat Fairfield last year and I think had a better record. Also, isn’t this the senior class that was very highly touted as 8th and 9th graders?

If we are talking football and future obviously Fairfield has a better outlook then OH. Roden had success at OH in what I would say was down years for the GMC. Roden has been applying for other jobs since he took the OH job. The question now is who will OH get to replace him and keep the momentum going forward.

Krause was making over $100,000 for his "assistant principal" and coaching contracts. This new gig will be a decent pay bump for Roden.

im sure this was motivated by $$ which in todays world i cant blame the man.

BUT its just really bad timing.

Idea out of the blue - OH should give Payton Ramsey a call
Completely agree. I threw out the idea of an Elder guy giving it a look and no one responded, but I think an Elder guy could take it to new heights, assuming everyone can get over the bitterness of how the two schools treat each other. Would be a great opportunity for a young and hungry coach.

Didn't OH also get new school leadership?

Oak Hills is a tough gig for any sport. Probably no other school district in SWOH loses as many kids on a percentage basis to the private schools. Yeah Mason loses a lot of kids, but their enrollment is a lot bigger than Oak Hills. The move to Fairfield is a good decision. Much larger enrollment and not losing as many kids to the private schools.

Really? I don't see a ton on OH grade school kids choosing Elder, X, or Moe. Yes, there are some, but most in SWOH?

I would venture to guess that the Lakotas and Sycamore lose a TON to X and Moe.

That is because they are already enrolled in the parochial schools for grades K-8.

Coach will be announced tonight or tomorrow at Oak Hills. Down to 2. Current assistant and an assistant at another GMC school

Guessing the assistant at the other school is already an OH employee - doesn't it have to be posted internally for a period of time per the union contract?

The real question is, who wants this career killing job and who is even available this late in the year?
Whose career did it kill? It didn’t kill Roden’s.
I understand the sentiment of the Oak Hills job being a "career killer" but most of their recent coaches have left to be head coaches elsewhere.

Kurry Commins was at Oak Hills from 2005-2011 and went on to be the head coach at Mariemont from 2012-2019.
Dan Scholz was at Oak Hills from 2012-2014 and today appears to be an assistant coach at Princeton. was rehired at Oak Hills.
Evan Dreyer went 1-9 in one season at Oak Hills in 2015 and has been the head coach at Anderson since 2016.
Kyle Prosser coached Oak Hills for 3 seasons from 2017-2019 and after stepping down, he remained an assistant AD at Oak Hills.
Roden followed Prosser and is now the head coach at Fairfield..

I have edited this previous post to reflect that Scholz is again the head coach at Oak Hills meaning the job is less of a career killer than previously thought. https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sp...olz-returns-oak-hills-ohsaa-2025/84058462007/

Roden had his foot out the door since he arrived at OH.. He was literally applying for other jobs every year since he started which fine, to each there own. Scholz is just a terrible and I think a desperate hire, Roden put OH in a terrible spot scrambling for a coach in June when the season starts in 2 months. But to say Scholz was hated in the OH community last time around would be an understatement. The job should have gone to the Oak Hills DC Tyler Elrod, young up and coming guy, would have been a smoother transition and a brighter future. I just don't know how you sell the future for OH football with Dan Scholz...

If they were already enrolled in the parochial schools for grades K-8, they weren't lost by OH. They were never available to OH to begin with.
kind of splitting hair. when I say lost I mean kids that live in the Oak Hills school district but go elsewhere for high school

Yeah I don’t consider kids that are at Catholic grade schools as kids they “lost”.

However, they still lose a decent number of kids that have gone through junior high at OH schools. This year is no different. 3 of their Top 5 kids (IMO) are going to GCL schools.

Mason loses the most anymore. Sycamore loses a lot less than you would think now, and I would say that the coaches always seems to have a good bead on which kids in junior high are locks to end up at Moeller anyway, so they can plan accordingly. Oak Hills is probably the same way. They don't lose as many as you would think to Elder and the ones that they do lose they know about well in advance. The Lakotas definitely lose some kids, but they also are very lax about transfers having "residency" within the district and transferring in, so they probably net gain anyway.
