Does anyone have results from the most recent Clinton Massie meet (this week)? I understand Tudor was over 61' in the shot there.

I don't know about Clinton-Massie but he went 62' @ New Richmond.

New Richmond Results

Thanks, but I already had that. I'm one of the statisticians providing historical documentation to SWOTCCCA as referenced by Lancermania on a recent thread. As such, we're expanding the all-time top 10 performers list to include the top 25 performers AND top 25 performances all-time in the Greater Cincinnati area. I have over 70+ meets of puts over 58 feet by Cincinnati-area guys over the years, so I'm attempting to chronicle Mack's season in total.

Javman,

No problem.....BTW, thank you for working on the site/stats that Lancermania referenced. That is a great resource of information that I did no know existed. I am curious if there is a similar reference for all of Ohio.

This is a little off of the topic but I looked at that site and was not aware that Voegle has already run under 4:17. That is an excellent time this early in the season. Hopefully he can maintain that and improve without peaking too early. The entire 1600 (Coaches Classic) was fast with four under 4:28.

The site just came into being in March after an intensive, several month effort earlier this year by a number of individuals. You can thank the SWOTCCCA organization for bringing this about over the last 6 months.

JAVMAN, do you mean the 3/24 CM meet or something newer?

Tudor went 61-0 and 169-3 at Massie this last Monday. Massie does 4 throws no finals, not the venue to reach deep.

The earliest Earle Redmond All Star meet results I have are from 1973. They show Murphy of Mariemont coming in third with a put of 51'1¼" behind the winner Marksbury of Norwood with a 58'10¼" and Woekenberg of Moeller with a 58'10". No first names given.

25. 57’ 11 ¼” Chris Murphy Mariemont AA Earle Redmond-Jr. May 24, 1971 1st

Also, #25 may be a mistake, but the mark by Mariemont's Chris Murphy was as reported in the Cincinnati Enquirer.

I have every issue of Our Times from 1971 and Chris Murphy is not listed on any. He is listed on every issue of Our Times from 1973. The first issue of April 7, 1973 shows him with a put of 50'6", third on the list. The final issue of Our Time in 1973 shows Chris Murphy of Mariemont still listed third with a best throw of 53'0". That would have made Mariemont's Chris Murphy a sophomore in 1971. Now they did have more than varsity athletes at the All Star meet with multiple divisions for varsity and junior varsity and later by class: seniors, juniors, sophomores, so he probably did compete in a lower division in 1971. Since his best throw as a senior was 53'0", I think it's safe to say a throw of 57'11¼" as a sophomore is a mistake on the Enquirer's part.:)

I know the meet goes back to at least 1969. Reggie McAfee broke the Ohio HS record there with his 4:13.3 mile on Monday, 12 May 1969. He also had a 1:54.1 880 at the same meet.

Here's what I posted on the Great Ohio Milers post earlier:

Reggie McAfee lowered the then all-time state record 2 times his senior year. On Monday May 12, 1969, McAfee broke the then record of 4:15.3 with his 4:13.3 mile at the Earle Redmond Memorial meet at Cincinnati's Sycamore Stadium (synthetic track). He also won the 880yd in 1:54.1 at the same meet. Four days later, McAfee followed that up with a 4:13.9 mile / 1:54.4 880yd double at the regional meet at Welcome Stadium (on cinder track). Finally, at the State meet, McAfee whacked 4.8 seconds off his mile best and 1.6 seconds off his 880yd best with his 4:08.5/1:52.5 MT double. The state meet record was whacked by over 9 seconds, and the 880yd was over 2 seconds faster than the previous best. He was a man among boys that 24th day of May in 1969!

Thank you. I think this is a case of where a 51 looked like a 57...the "1" got smudged in the microfilm scanning process to look like a "7".

This is why I "flagged" the performance myself. I have now added in the next name on the list for the #25 spot...Steve Quehl @ 57' 4 3/4" with his GCL win at Roger Bacon on 19 May 1971.

Thank you.

Javman,
Have you posted the Cincy district champions list you were working on anywhere?

No, not as yet. I'm working towards a 2nd week of May release, just in time for the district meets. I've now expanded them to include the district meets going back to 1923, the origination of the SW Ohio district meet at Oxford. I know how, now, the meets progressed from site-to-site. It is a HUGE database of information, probably in the 400-500 page area. I'll be forwarding this to SWOTCCCA for their permanent archives.

If you have any specific questions, I may be able to answer them in the meantime.

I was txt'd 191-3 and 57+. Do you know it was 191-2 for sure? Was told he also had a back-up at 189+

Yes 191-2, we misheard the first call but confirmed after the discus was over. The next one went 189-10. He over stepped them both coming out of the back. First one 150's and second one a foul.

Nice job. Now #2 all-time in Cincinnati area, 14" behind La Salle's Chandler Burden.

Wouldn't it be appropriate to break Burden's record in his own backyard next week at La Salle? :)

The 1970 results indicate the meet began in 1965. I'd love to see the 65-68 results.

Thanks for the correction. Sooooo many names & performances to record accurately. Sometimes my "auto-fill" function in Excel sneaks one by me on occasion. Thanks for the catch.

I maybe able to acquire them soon.

I'm thinking of categorizing all the photos I have of past results by year & meet and forwarding them to SWOTCCCA for permanent record to provide everyone a research archive to look at old results. I've taken thousands of photos of old results.

Mike Berwanger usually run the discus at meets at La Salle. I'll tell him to get the oldest official he can find to mark the discus throws like you told me was done at a certain meet we won't mention.;)

I spoke with Dave Moore who coached Marksberry, he said the 61-9.75 did happen, he wrote the article and sent it to T&F News, he will check his archives and bring me a copy of the actual meet stats to send to you.

Thank you! The only reason it was ever caught was me stumbling across a file folder on Cal DyeStat (California's DyeStat) website that contained a whole bunch of scanned mid-year or end-of-year national lists. Being the inquisitive researcher I am, i scoured the entire list of marks for the years 1948-2000 that were available. The 1973 list is where I found that mark of Marksbury's!

Thanks for the heads-up.
