Despite falling in the championship final (and congrats to St. Ignatius), a few positive reflections for Centerville basketball fans/followers...
Since the founding of the school in 1924 (that's 100 years for you math genius's), prior to 2020, the Elks had never been to the Ohio State BB finals.
Under Coach Cupps' leadership, since the '20-21 season, the Elks have amassed a 4-year cumulative record of 100-17, including a stretch of 45 in-a-row.
They have won 5 consecutive GWOC conference titles, 4 straight Regional titles, 3 state championship finals appearances and an ever-elusive state title.
In addition, they have indirectly represented Ohio in multiple interstate competitions, including victories against some of the best teams from across the U.S and for whatever it's worth, reached a ranking as high as #7 in the nation at one point, according to MaxPreps.
Tough as it is to lose in the state final, in retrospect and historically, I am certain that 20, 30 and 60 years from now, all Elk followers will look back with great appreciation at the accomplishments of this past 4-5 year run. As either a public, or private school, few teams in Ohio basketball history have had the chance to fullfill such a destiny on behalf of their school. Hats off to the kids, the coaches, & the program for raising the bar to this height for us supporters to enjoy...
