Police arrest 24-year-old accused of posing as Ohio high school student

Yappi

Go Buckeyes
Police said a few years ago, he told the school he was a homeless 16-year-old. He claimed he was a victim of human trafficking and wanted to become a student there. Police said his work visa expired in 2023, and that’s the same year he reached out to Perrysburg Schools to enroll.

Labrador-Sierra allegedly enrolled in the district as a 16-year-old unaccompanied minor, under federal and state rules for students experiencing homelessness or who do not have a legal guardian, according to the school district.

He was also on the JV soccer and swim teams.

I wonder what the endgame really was for this guy, something nefarious or just the easiest path for day to day survival ?

Was he more or less innocently enjoying the experience as a 16-year-old DP ?

I recall a story from Texas awhile back where some 20-something year old was a football star and dating some high school girl. Seemed like he was doing it for the jock-status. That seems much more nefarious to me than someone avoiding deportation, not that I'm defending it.

Makes you wonder how many times something like this has happened without anyone ever catching on

Joked about this earlier with some friends lol. This is the opposite of the Al Bundy “I was a great high school athlete” trope.
Plus he is from Venezuela. I'm sure his fitness was horrible but he has to have some solid foot skills.

I've always felt foreign-exchange students who aren't good enough to make the Varsity soccer team with minimal effort are a waste of time. We need to recruit talent to this country, not bench-warmers.

Did this individual date high school girls too?

Most people can't wait to get out of high school, not try to get back in. What kind of documentation do kids need to provide to validate their identity?

I heard a funny story associated with this kid today.

NBC was doing some man on the street interviews, and they happened upon one Jerry Glanville, former head coach of the Houston Oilers, the man in black, roaming the streets of Perrysburg, Ohio. The reporter had no idea who they were talking to at the time.

I seem to recall he worked same place as my Ma. Him or his brother or both. Stories weren't flattering. Can't be all bad when you make it in the world and still return home.
