Playoffs W2: Winton Woods @ Withrow

The sad part about it is those kids stuck around for Murphy. We all decided to stay & it's a lot of regrets. If those kids in the 23/24 leave then the 25s would've left as well. they had a flag team for tht 25 class when they were in 8th grade. We were all in contact & decided because gray was the DC we decided to stay. The biggest loss was losing Greg Forrest the offensive coordinator. He figured it put he lived in the building watching film but u expect that from a college position coach.
Greg Forest was a former UC assistant coach. When did he leave? Makes since the offense declined.

a few years ago who all applied along with Murphy? No long time assistant wanted the job?

From my understanding those 2022 seniors went & talked with the powers to be & they requested tht Murphy get the job since he was the QB coach & the kids were familiar with him. Tht yr the offense was dominated by seniors & the younger kids flocked to defense and you see why tht unit is so good. He had #99 #0 #2 #11 for 3 yrs. Next yr the defense will have a lot of guys return again because he plays the kids if they can play & do the right things off the field.

Lot of emotions after a loss like that, but you’ve got several key offensive players looking to transfer out. Not to mention the guys who came in the last two years are telling others not to follow.
Coach lost the locker room before they ever played the first game this year. No accountability from the top guy and talks out of both sides of his mouth. These kids aren’t stupid.

In the 24 class them dudes had 8/9 kids with D1 offers
In the 25 class they got 6 kids with D1 offers
In the 26 class 1 kid with D1 offers
In the 27 class 2 kids have offers.
Thts 18 kids with D1 offers. Who else got tht many. Idk I could be wrong
I had no idea it was anywhere close to that many.

Thanks

Yea thts why a lot of us are so disappointed in the offense this yr. kids gave up their position on defense to come help the offense only for those coaches to play them when they needed him. #2 Johnson 28 touches in last 2 games. Vs Lasalle 1 touch punt return set up the winning td. Withrow 4 touches. #2 & #9 saved their season vs Loveland but they got punished by the rb coach. Like how. They had more yards tht game than we had the previous 3. Smh I can't see kids wanting to come to WW unless it's to play defense for Gray.

Ok, so my question is, are all of those 18 actual offers?

And I ask on numerous threads each season about offers, signees, and actually playing college ball. How many of those guys will actually play D-1 college ball?

Crazy numbers are thrown around on Yappi about all these guys signing to play ball at the D1 level, but the numbers simply don't add up.

There's less than a 1% chance of a high school football player will get a d1 scholarship..... the number depending on study shows about 7 players out of 1000 get a D1 scholarship. And Winton Woods has 18?

I'm not discounting their talent. If they really have 18 legit D-1 athletes, that's beyond incredible.

I mean by what's posted Yappi each year, Cincinnati should have well over 4%+ of the D1 scholarships in the entire country.

I'd love to see someone start posting how many offers kids get vs how many sign letters of intent vs how many actually wind up playing for that school.

I would say there's a good chance majority will sign their letters of intent barring no grade issues in the next few months.

I remember 2 yrs ago before anyone knew of Mathews or Calhoun I told this group they would be P5 kids b4 they took a snap their junior yrs. They laughed. I've been knowing these kids their entire lives. I know majority of the kids across the state. I've seen majority at camps or even at my own camp.

I'm totally cool with Rolling with straight Forest Park kids, if outside kids want to leave. I know what a FB kid brings to the table, I'm also cool with whomever came up with the offensive game plan this year heading to another district, that's not WW football. 2nd year in a row of terrible offense in clutch moments.

You have open enrollment. Take advantage of it and get the right coaches in place. Have you seen how Massillon has used open enrollment to their advantage. They start like 50% of their team from Massillon. To say you only want home grown kids is like saying I want to be less talented next year. You are literally complaining about being too talented and having poor coaching.

Very sad. With Mt. Healthy,Princeton,Withrow, Taft having some success. Parents and kids will look into them schools 1st before WW & I don't see how they get kids with that current offensive staff. Those coaches will use this yr to persuade kids tht their school is a better fit for their kids. Had the most talent in city and lost because offensive personnel was questionable all

So who are leaving for Princeton and will they help with what Parker is building

I don't believe kids are leaving. I'm talking in reference to where WW will get their kids. Little league football had been good to WW, but with Withrow, Taft, Princeton, Mt. Healthy having success it will be little harder now to get those kids from those little league programs as these schools I have mentioned have ppl scattered through these youth leagues so they know the kids better and have a better chance at getting the kids. I know because thts wht the old staff did, you can go all the way back to Chris Oats and Myian Williams. But the difference then was we were only fighting with Lasalle for the kids and now it's a different beast. I ref youth games too & I've saw at least 3 ppl affiliated with Withrow coaching 3 different 12 yr old teams. I even joked with them about it lol

I understand what you’re saying. But unfortunately kids/ parents are going to move. Winning builds a different culture and kids want to be with friends that are winning.

Winton Woods had the players to compete this season and didn't get it done.
There are ALWAYS very high expectations in the program.

If some players leave thru open enrollment it's ok.
If some players come thru open enrollment it's ok.
There will always be players at WW and always has been.

When I saw the offense they rolled out in Friday night I laughed.
When they kept trying to run that set I was frustrated.
It illustrated a lot but I'm not gonna pound on the coaches.... they know.
Everyone saw the offensive woes and it was tough to watch at times.

I'm gonna say the coach knows they didn't do a great job with most offense related issues this season and will take some steps to address it.
Need to add someone to that staff who knows how to design, teach and execute a proper HS offense lol.
There are people out there that will be available who would go off with the players available to get the ball to.
Let's see what happens and I'll just hope for the best.

No QB=Offensive problems. George should have started every game. That was the first mistake. Not sure what happened there, but if you have 2 QB's than you have none. Murphy is a very good coach. Withrow just tapped into the WW pool of talent and you can tell.

I just was inside the program for the last 10 yrs or so. I helped get kids there. These guys made it easy for me but it was definitely a blueprint to attack all the urban youth leagues but now it's too many schools to battle for kids with. Just a few kids I plucked from the city league
Tamarion crumpley-Pitt
Jermaine Mathews-O state
Calhoun- Michigan
And crumpley fell in my lap because Daniels couldn't get him in Princeton. Go to tht state championship team them kids came from youth program who traveled and played competitive football for 6 months. These kids have played a lot of football

WW will be fine when it comes to kids staying or going. I think Murphy has realized that its hard to be the HC and OC at the same time. Murphy will find a OC becouse not just the kids want to play at WW, but coaches want to say they coached there as well. Any great OC would love to coach opposite of Grey. The biggest problem I see for WW is mental toughness and strength. These past 2 seasons they have physically weaker and not mentally tough on the offensive side of the ball. That needs to be addressed before anything else.

I wonder if they got there soul snatched every practice by the defense, because the offense was pitiful and the players seemed to just go through the motions. I hope there is a major shakeup with this team "before" school year ends to keep kids in place.

You would be mad if I showed u the hudl practice film.

Are you truly that ignorant that you go to a thread about 2 Cincy schools to talk about Massillon ?? Obsessed as fk.

So are you a coach on WW staff I'm guessing?
No I have a kid on the team and I have been around the football program for the last 10 yrs. I coached a lot of these kids in youth & middle school where we traveled & the kids wanted to stay together. I'd advise any parent to watch hudl so they can see wht their child is doing in practice. You won't come to the game surprised tht you're child when he's not in there.

So are you saying it’s bad coaching in practice. If so why would you tolerate it if you was a parent or youth coach. Get you child away from the problem.
