Perry Panther Football 2025

I think it’s safe to say the wing t as we knew it with Coach Wakefield & Coach Slates is over. Haven’t heard much of what he wants to run other than hearing Coach Leno during an interview talking about looking at his personnel and running what’s advantageous to his returning skill. He did mention running more RPO’s in the interview. He also mentioned running a 3-4 defense. I guess unless you know a player on the team and talk to them during some camp days this June that’s the only way you’ll know.

I think the RPO thing is gonna be a massive adjustment. And while I’m somewhat sad about the break from the WingP, I get it.

Perry’s culture was do exactly what the coach tells you. The QB literally ran over to the coach after every play to get the next one. To put the decision making in the hands of a kid after years of the exact opposite is going to be an adjustment. It’s not a critique either… it just is what it is. Coach Leno needs some grace for just that culture change on its own let alone the other new things.

I don’t have any insight other than hearing Coach Leno on two interviews so far. I took from those that you’ll probably see the jet sweep, something most everyone runs, just out of different formations. I think you’ll see more passing. Let’s face it, last year you had 6-6 Wolf and 6-5 Wilson, at WR’s, who were under used. This year Wilson is back and I don’t foresee him running patterns to decoy running plays. When I mentioned RPO’s I don’t think that will be an every play QB decision, just something they will probably ease into. I think Coach Leno is smart to look at his returning offensive talent and line and run an offense suited for his personnel. Lemon is a very quick RB, Sheppard is a bruiser FB and LB, then you have the speedy Nasir Foster and where will he end up. Lots of questions and the answers will be coming.

Having wide receivers that are 6'5 and 6'6, and using them as decoys is borderline criminal, unless the QB is completely abysmal. If my memory serves me correctly, last years Perry QB was far from abysmal.

Any Updates On The Panthers Staff Or The Team.
I’m hearing the staff is pretty much set, names I’m not sure, and there have been videos on X by Coach Leno praising the weight lifting efforts by the team so far.

Any New Players This Year.
I’ve been hearing some new kids have come out, that hadn’t played since 9th grade. There is a rumor of a couple kids from adjoining districts south of Perry who have come in, but I have yet to get that confirmed. So at this point, I’m not putting much credibility to that rumor.

If this is tying back to the Fairless rumors and/or any other transients from there or any PAC school for that matter. No disrespect, but NO ONE from any school in the PAC is going to come to Perry (or any other Fed school for that matter) and make a huge impact. Could a handful of the best players from any of those schools come in and compete and probably start? Yes, but there are no "Poochie" or any other caliber player like that running around in D4 through D7 in surrounding areas that would do that.

I don't have any insight into what Perry has or doesn't have, only hearing the same things, talented incoming Sophomore class, maybe can help and make some impacts, but to earlier points, unless some major 2nd and 3rd tier of puberty kicked in and weight room gains were huge, I wouldn't bank success on underclassman either. That all said, I feel like some strides will be made and fresh start was needed.

Why couldn’t the Fairless area have what they need? That’s where they just got their wrestling coach from
