PAC 2023

They say imitation is the best form of flattery. Therefore, I'm going to borrow from an old Friday staple on one of the Syracuse boards I frequent. We'll see if I can keep this up ... but here's the first installment:

It's Friday and What Have We Learned This Week?

Its Friday GIF by The Office

  • Onside Kick-6 and Sideline use of iPads for Official Reviews are OK. As long as the game is in New Franklin.
  • Toledo Macomber was in line to join the PAC, replacing CVCA in the fall of 2025 (and you thought Loudonville was a long drive!). Unfortunately, their application was rejected since the school closed in 1991.
  • @Raylan_Givens still has his Palm Pilot. And an affinity for Quiznos. Did someone say roadtrip?

  • I may - or I may not - be using my white-collar lunch break to draft this post
  • Tuslaw will be Double Trouble this year with a sticky variety of trick plays. Check out John George's Deli, if you're in the area. But you have to visit. Note: No delivery. Also ... no website (trick plays have to stay secret!)
  • Kate Upton loves her some PACtion. At least I think that's what we learned. Maybe
  • The visiting press box at Tuslaw apparently doubles as a veterinary training clinic during the week. At least before Triway visits.
  • Orrville is going to be good next year. And there might be a quarterback battle at Northwest
  • And @Rich Kotite is using the late April time frame to reacquaint himself with his dentist.

119 Days til Kickoff, my friends. Have a great weekend!

I have been just schooled on how to do quality posting! I have a fantastic dentist too...lol

If some HC/OC is willing to have an open mind about their offense, that kid has the chance to be a Pete Maravich on turf at the next level.
Listen Raylan- He might be 83 years old and hangin' on in his senior citizen retirement years, but I've got a coach who shook things up with the Silver Stretch offense in the late 1980's and early 90's. This coach has an open mind about offense and has Canton connections on top of it so he may be willing to open up his vaunted and coveted Rodney Peete playbook for Poochie Snyder:

Wayne Fontes

#PACtion
The vaunted "run and shoot" offense that was taking the football world by storm in the late '80s/early '90s. I lost track of how many times Fontes was thought to be fired but kept saving his job. Chris Berman likened Fontes to Rasputin.

Few people would probably appreciate the #PACtion thread quite like Jerry Springer; a man who would have highly liked the bleacher antics of certain former Manchester coaches/fans, confusion on onside kicks, The Ring of Fire, and Mo Tipton's old black cowboy hat.

RIP Jerry Springer at 79 years old

The Osnaburg (Ohio) Local School District is building a $2.38 million health and wellness facility at East Canton High School in East Canton.
The Canton Repository reports that the 9,384-square-foot Foltz Fieldhouse will contain a 3,515-square-foot sports performance center, space for health care, locker rooms and what will be known as a team room. The new facility will be adjacent to the East Canton Foltz Stadium.

"This is a monumental project for East Canton schools," Superintendent Kevin Finefrock said. "Investing in the health and wellness of students and staff will lead to positive student outcomes, such as stronger connections to school and classmates, improved attendance, academic performance, resiliency and self-confidence."

Construction is expected to start in April and be completed in about six months.

All of the funding for the project has been privately raised, Finefrock said.

The facility is named in honor of area residents Dwain and Kathy Foltz, who have pledged donations for the facility.

Motter & Meadows Architects is the architect, and Olivieri Construction is the builder.

I remember all the controversy when he won PAC player of the year in the 2018 PAC thread when he beat out Ethan Wright and Marquelle Parks. Wright went on to do nothing in college at Cincinnatti, Parks is probably in the whoskow somewhere and Tre got drafted. While Parks and Wright were great high school players Tre has always been a next level player. anyone who knew Tre knew he was going to get drafted someday. Congratulations son.

Parks was an exponentially better high school player, and also a state champ. It's been half a decade and that robbery still upsets me

No where near exponentially better. When they played against each other Parks never made a tackle on Tre. He couldn't tackle him and most of the time looked really bad trying to. Tre had no issues tackling him at all in the open field.

That's a great anecdote, but Parks took an average high school team to a state championship in his career. Tucker, despite playing at the only private school in the conference, didn't even lead his team to a PAC 7 title during his tenure there. Just not the same

Did you forget the 10 transfer kids that showed up from Wooster and 3 other schools? 2 of them were nephews of mine lol.

What’s the saying? Why let facts get in the way of a good story? Here’s a comparison.

Head to head

2017: CVCA 56 Orrville 20
Tucker
  • 9 rushes, 77 yards, TD
  • Passing: 2-2, 21 yards, TD
  • Receiving: 3 catches, 68 yards, TD
  • 1 blocked PAT
Parks
  • 87 yard kickoff return, TD
2018: Orrville 37 CVCA 34
(Bevington injured; missed most of second half)

Tucker
  • Rushing: 33 carries, 211 yards, 2 TDs
  • Passing: 1/3, 19 yards, TD
  • Receiving: 1 catch, 48 yards, TD
  • Defense: 6 tackles, 3 assists
Parks
  • Rushing: 17 carries, 172 yards, 2TD
With all due respect, this doesn’t say “exponentially better.” In fact, most neutral observers would marvel at the athleticism on both sides of the ball on those games. But best player? No question, he was on the Royals sideline.

Nothing takes away the Division 5 state championship. But even there, it’s not a fair argument. Match up Orrville with Perry in Division 4 and the Red Riders probably meet the same fate as CVCA.

As far as player of the year goes? Ethan Wright won in 2017 and 2019. Tucker won over Parks and Wright in 2018. Based on the 2018 head to head result, given the contribution each player made for his team, Tucker was the right choice.

Parks year to win POY was his senior year, in 2020. Sadly, he never got to fulfill what could have been his destiny.

A good friend was on the Orrville staff when they won the title & not a word was said about Tucker winning POY as a Senior in 2018 when Parks was a Sophomore. Frankly I think everyone expected it to be Tucker, Wright, Parks for the next 3 years simply based on when they'd be graduating.

A lot of words were said the next year when France was named COY when the Panthers finished 2nd in the league during Wright's senior season when, with Wright, they beat a Parks-less Orrville by 3 points.

As for Tucker, Wright & Parks - someone should start writing the stories down so we can share them for the next generation because there will likely never be that level of combined talent in this league again. Ever. Would be a great 30 for 30 film.

Also, I'm really SHOCKED at how "small" Tre Tucker actually is. That 2018 season CVCA came back & put games away by simply putting him in wildcat and running straight at people. That dude was tough as nails and ran like he was 225. Seeing him described as "small" just puts into perspective the size disparity at the different levels of football.

I never saw Parks play in person. I did see him play in the championship game on tv. He looked pretty good in that game. I know most of the story with him...could he have been a good college player if he had stayed out of trouble? Also could they have won another state title? I do remember the QB was a good runner too.

Tre would have probably won a state championship or 2 in wrestling if he had decided to wrestle in highschool instead of preparing for track. He was a absolute monster on the wrestling mat as well.
