OSU vs Cornell Jan. 5

Hell of an atmosphere last night. Young guns are scrappy, gotta love that. I’m not knocking on Gavin but put somebody else in.

I thought Hoffman was a high ranked recruit
Maybe I’m wrong
I have never thought he looked athletic and was shocked when he AA’ed. Thought maybe I wasn’t giving him enough credit but since he AA’ed he’s been back to what I thought he was

You're correct. I should have said "most" wrestlers (to my knowledge at least) are not enrolled during an Olympic redshirt. I am sure you can't wrestle attached and then Olympic redshirt, it has to be from the start of the year. I know of five Olympic redshirts that were announced and then later "rescinded":

- Kyle Snyder, 2016. DNC in fall, first wrestling match was January 17th
- Kanen Storr, 2020. DNC in fall, first wrestling match was January 8th
- Taylor LaMont, 2020. Only one I found to have competed in fall schedule- came out of redshirt in late November
- Andrew Berreyesa, 2020. DNC in fall, first wrestling match was January 19th
- Cooper Flynn, 2024. DNC in fall, first wrestling match was December 17th

I don't think Kolodzik was "officially" an Olympic redshirt, although it was reported by everyone to be (he didn't qualify), but he did return amid a gap year.
My understanding was that you enrolled second semester when they pulled the RS but Taylor Lamont would break that rule so maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they're just usually not enrolled so they can travel and compete overseas.

Maybe a little silver lining here- tonight Ryder Downey beat #2 Robb from Nebraska 6-5. Gallagher beat Downey just a few weeks ago. Haines and Shapiro may be the runaways at the weight this year. Think it shows Paddy is capable of beating 3-10 on any given day, those other 2 guys are straight studs.

I’d say someone needs to end his vision quest, which really never started.

13-3 Bucks.

Big match coming up.

157- #12 Paddy Gallagher (R-So.) vs #15 Meyer Shapiro (Fr.) - Paddy is wrestling better this year, but Shapiro is dangerous. See his match w/Andonian in Vegas. Will be an interesting match as it features vastly contrasting styles.
Yes contrasting for sure, as it turns out holding position and hoping for an opportunity in neutral doesn't work out on a guy who is total offense and not worried how much he can bench press. Shapiro is the real deal that match with Andonian proved that early on, he's just working through a few things even the best freshman have to compensate and adjust to. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Shapiro wins it all this year.

Downey beat Gallagher just a few weeks ago too, and is only a RS freshman . He's talented but the win over Robb doesn't translate to Paddy beating #3 through #10 with any consistence IMO.

Styles make fights, Shapiro dropped two at CKLV. I think 157 is very deep with Paddy as a blood round type right now. Wouldn't have him in the same category as P Robb just yet.

So Hoffman is beating Shumate in the wrestle offs? Never would have thought that was possible. Then I look him up and see he was pinned by his freshman teammate Rogotzke at the Clarion Open - who then finished 5th at the tournament

Rogotzke also pinned Shumate at the same tournament. I watched it, it was pretty impressive.
