OHSFCA Meeting with Husted

I can confirm. Our head coach sent out a text lastnight saying it got changed to today. He got the info from our AD

I would be surprised to hear any immediate announcements coming from the meeting today. I think more likely Husted will have talks with DeWine/Lance Himes before any orders are put in. The best case scenario is DeWine puts an order in during Tuesday's briefing allowing for school vs. school contact sports without testing requirements.

DeWine and Husted have to come out with a clear mandate, not a recommendation. I believe they want athletics but they have to feel like they are making as safe as possible. I can even say this about mandates—- people still are not wearing masks in stores and stores are permitting it rather than make any publicity for themselves. Hoping we can find a way to play now, not in the spring. Hoping it is in time to play the planned schedule of 10 games. Understand there will be some problems but hopefully we can work through it.

Aren’t they just deciding to change the “contact/no-contact” status of cross-country?

No. The Ohio football coaches association is not meeting with Husted to talk about cross country. They are talking about their plans they have to make football safe to play amid the pandemic.

Iowa HS baseball season ends tonight (only state where HS sports have taken place since pandemic) It wasn’t exactly smooth sailing with Covid but: - 94% of teams were unaffected - 96% finished season - all infections reportedly mild - fans were allowed all season

To be fair, rural areas have a better chance at some of this than densely populated areas. But both demographics are going to have to learn how to do sports and life with the risks nature has thrown at us.

So Iowa HS at 6% is having more success of being "unaffected" from Covid than Major League Baseball which has had at least 20% of teams affected thus far at 10 games into the 60 game season---and most of those MLB teams don't have "old and feeble" people stuck in nursing homes playing for them---so why the outbreaks of young men in their 20's and 30's????

its time. drop the testing requirement. because its just not feasible. Then the state (governor and ODH), ohsaa, and OHSFCA can begin to determine the best way forward to play as safely as possible.

if it means no fans than so be it. I just think that schools at least in my area are going to start at a minimum in a hybrid schedule, we can let them play sports if we do that.

In all seriousness, would it be prudent to play as local of a schedule as possible for year?

Reports are now coming out that the Marlins players were all at a casino on the road trip and there is speculation that the Cardinals players were at a gentlemen's club. Our 14-18 year high school players are not doing that as far as we know.

I would hope not--but they go to places like fast food and malls---the point is MLB has a large % of their teams getting infected--does it matter that it was a casino or a strip joint???

Not really...but since the entire real world is back to work, these kids get whatever their parents bring home anyway from those that go to strip clubs, casinos or fast food restaurants. Walmart, grocery stores or gas stations. Factories, offices or dentists. And the list goes on. So whether there is school or sports.....it will never matter. The spread has already happened.

The OHSAA has also been invited to join this meeting between the OHSFCA and Husted. Not sure of the significance of that. According to an email I have seen the testing requirement "must be lifted to have any contact sports this school year." So no more worries about who will pay for the testing, FWIW.

Following this meeting it should be either we are playing or plan B. No more moving through 2 a days with this looming health order over everyone. They have had enough time. Either lift the order or move to spring....today.

The OHSFCA proposals are a joke. Waste of time meeting. Did anyone else read them? Also meeting with Husted, where is Dewine and board of health. Looks like busy body work of those who have no power to decide. Dewine and a key board of health rep can't be on the call. This is a cluster F.

If they come out of this meeting with no definite decisions it will be ridiculous. And don’t tell me the decision has already been made and we are playing because it hasn’t. The decision lies with the governors office and the state department of health. Times up. Tell ohsaa we plan on lifting the ban or not. No more waiting.

Maybe it is like the proposals to do baseball tournaments this summer. What was pitched, and approved, was an absolute joke and the only two things that I saw followed was no hand shake afterwords, and some places had their bleachers roped off but other than that it was BAU.

OHSFCA can bring whatever stupid measures to the table to just get approval, sans testing, just to get it approved then we can just ignore everything.
